Funny story, I'm building a 383cid small-block Chevy and I called up my cam manufacturer. I asked them what oil to use as I need a high ZDDP content at break-in. I mentioned Rotella T, and the guy paused and said "Are you building a tractor? No? Then don't use that crap."

Just run what the manufacturer says spend the rest of the money on hookers.
Driven DT-40. Very high zinc. The flat-6's like it. Guys who race $150k 911 cup cars like it. Guys who build $150k 911 cup cars like it. NESR will tell you it is unnecessary because it costs more than $20 a gallon.

Look, there's probably plenty of guys on NESR who know what they are talking about, and have a wide ranging experience. But most of the guys on here think their experience with 2 or 3 SV650s, Hawks, an odd GSX-R or two, and maybe a couple of two stroke dirt bikes gives them all the knowledge they need to know. It's them that make for entertaining viewing.

Extra virgin olive oil is unnecessary and expensive. I use Crisco for everything. No one in my family has died from a heart attack before age 30.

Olive Oil Scam REVEALED (And How To Spot The Real Stuff) | Mama Natural

In the UC Davis study, these brands failed to meet extra-virgin olive oil standards:

    Colavita
    Filippo Berio
    Mazzola
    Mezzetta
    Newman’s Own
    Pompeian
    Rachel Ray
    Safeway

    Whole Foods

In the same study, these olive oils met the extra-virgin standards:

    Corto Olive
    California Olive Ranch
    Kirkland Organic
    Lucero (Ascolano)
    McEvoy Ranch Organic

    Good catch, keen eye.

Thanks for making my point. "The answer always comes down to the specific motor." -- that's what I said. And I said that in response to a generalized "synthetic is a waste" comment. Then came all the "I use T6 in all my vehicles" guys.

NESR rotella marketing department = satire of actual marketing for a product by unpaid consumers with nothing to gain by promotion

Amsoil marketing department = Did I tell you I'm a dealer? Amsoil is great. I'm a dealer, buy from me. Want to buy it online? No no no, you need to buy it through the pyramid. It's the best oil out there. Standards? No, they don't use industry standards and certifications. It's too good for that. Did I mention I'm a dealer? You can be a dealer too. Then if you sign all your friends up as dealers, we all win!

BTW, Rotella is on sale at Tractor Supply right now. 5 gallon bucket, $60.

That Traveller oil is what I have been using in all things 4-stroke. Consider saving an additional $10 for that same bucket but with a different label.

BS. I've been on here for years and most people STILL have no idea I'm a dealer. I've also never noticed anyone else on this site posting about it all the time either.

And for fwiw, when i was tracking my cars they got Redline since the more ester based oils hold up to higher heat applications better.

The marketing of Amsoil sucks, but that doesn't mean it's a bad oil by any stretch.

Synthetic oil is much more consistent in molecular weight and breaks down less than the non-synthetic. I don't worry much about brand of oil, but I do always use a good quality synthetic for all my vehicles (that is formulated for motorcycles if the vehicle is a motorcycle), and I do believe that contributes to the longevity of my machinery. Oil is the lifeblood of a machine; going cheap on that is what is known as "penny wise and pound foolish".

    The marketing of Amsoil sucks
These things are great for trail riding and refueling at distant gas stations. Easy to carry.

California Olive Ranch is pretty solid stuff. Not as peppery as I'd like, but decent for the money.

Re: Extra virgin olive oil, where are the bargains

What you really want is a good coconut oil for your popcorn, amazing what a difference in flavor you get over boring canola.

For the record, I run Castrol GTX in the Fizzer, changing it after 3 race rounds it's still clean, clingy and viscous but I'll continue to change after two rounds 'cause it's cheap. Also, it doesn't look like antifreeze and freak me out like another brand...

I also use Rotella T6 in my bikes.
Never thought about using it in my car - I usually just use whatever name-brand synthetic is cheapest for the 5-quart jug at Walmart.
