Getting mold out of leathers

I had a bit on the left side of my leathers. Last weekend I just tucked the front in 1 and voila! no more mold!

I would wipe down the moldy area with a solution of clorox & water , then once you get your leather dries, be carful not to leaft them damp in a pile in the corner where they get moldy

Removing mold from leather objects is equally difficult. Vacuuming is again the best approach, but you must be careful not to press the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner onto the object, or use its brush attachment with too much vigor. Either may cause the mold to smear, staining the surface, or abrade the object. The best approach is to hold the nozzle very close to the artifact, and allow the suction to pull the mold off. You may use a moderately stiff hog hair or hake hair brush to "sweep" the mold toward the nozzle. Be especially careful if there are beadwork, delicate attachments, or loose fragments. You will want to cover the nozzle with nylon mesh or use mesh over the object, to provide additional protection.

Try this?:

After testing for colorfastness, wipe leather with a cloth moistened with diluted alcohol* (1 cup denatured alcohol to 1 cup water). Dry where the air is circulating. If mildew remains, wash quickly with thick suds made from a mild soap or detergent, or saddle soap. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry in air. Polish leather shoes, etc., with a good wax dressing.

After removing mildew, air or sun the leather product thoroughly.

werd... i went to town w/ some dish soap and water... then sprayed em down w/ Tilex (suggested by a friend of my mom who's a seamstress/textile know-it-all)

They're out in my backyard now in the sun drying off.

After they dry you might want to condition them with Lexol or something similar.

Never use the sun to dry leathers ... too fast and it will damage the leather.

Best place I found to dry leathers is in front of an air conditioner.
The air is very dry and it wicks the moisture off the leather.

Another thing that works very well is a dehumidifier ...
hang your leather on a chair draped in front of the dehumidifier.

Never use heat of any kind to dry leathers, that includes sun.

How did you get mold on your leathers? Aren't they new? I was told to put baby powder in them after a hot day.

Tilex has bleach in it and will kill mold.

Just make sure you condition the leather after it dries.

How are you guys storing your leathers/gear so that it doesn't go moldy or mildewy over the winter?

I have several sets of gear (leather, gore-tex, regular) and I usually store them (folded) in totes in my basement. My basement is relatively cool and dry but basically no airflow, so a couple of bits have gotten moldy.

Are there better options? Stuff I should be spraying to prevent mold? Or find a place to hang them up instead of storing them inside something air-tight?

One of the advantages of living alone, all my gear goes in my closet on hangers...and my cloths are folded and on top of the dryer. Whenever I come home from a ride, or a trackday, I hang my leathers up from the ceiling fan, and turn the fan on low for a day or so

I used to scrub with Murphy's oil soap then a leather conditioner

Damp is your enemy leather is food for mildew etc.

Dry the F out of them sunny day

I hang mine in a garbage bag but if you cant I would suggest a vacuum storage bag couple of moth balls

Mine just live on a hanger off the garage door track during the season, and on a hanger in a closet for the winter. No issues yet?
