I was thinking of buying heated gloves, as well as a heated jacket liner/vest.
what gear does everyone use, manufacturer/model wise and your experience with them.
I ride to the gym around 4am, still chilly at that time.
by the time I get to the gym my hands are freezing.
I know it wont be long before I won't need them, but I will be all set come fall.
Gerbings jacket liner and a Heattroller is what I use. Mototmarket in Acton sells them. You can add electric gloves easily enough, but I have electric grip heaters and am fine with them.

Love em and still using them.

I stopped riding below 35. My tires have very little traction when it's that cold and I thinks it's inherently unsafe to ride then.
On Monday, I used my heated gear from My home in Raymond NH, down to Westford, MA, back up to NH all the way to VT on 119, through VT on 9, into NY on 7 and down to the Tappan Zee bridge on NY 22, 684 and 287. I finally shut it off when I was on the Garden State Parkway in NJ. I was really glad to have heated gear, especially at the higher elevations in VT. Still quite a bit of snow up there.
Supposed to be a high of 54 in NJ tomorrow when I leave for home. I suspect the heated gear will be welcome yet again for that ride. Might skip VT...
Just got to take it easy......I was commuting in 10-20 degree weather.... Granted I was not dragging knee but it was nice to still be out there.
I stopped riding when the snow came in early December and Started up when the rains washed the sand and salt away in early March.

I like the Tourmaster Synergy heated gear. I just use their electric vest (the one with collar), and the bikes have heated grips. Get the vest in a size that fits snugly and wear it over your base layer, then wear a fleece over it; it's most effective that way. I can ride comfortably in any temperature that way, and actually really enjoy riding when temps are in the 30s and 40s.

I use just the Tourmaster Synergy full liner. Definately recommend it. Hard to beat it for the price.
This the first year in 3 years I did not ride through winter (no bike). I use a Tourmaster Synergy vest and that's it for heated gear, I use Firstgear HT overpants and a Tourmaster Transition Series 2 Jacket. The coldest I've ridden in is about 12F degrees and I'm usually pretty comfortable.
I love my Warm N Safe jacket liner and single remote heat-troller

Ive used this setup down to 25 degrees so far, and I've yet to turn the heat-troller up to its max setting
Thanks for all the input guys.
I will be doing some more research before I decide what to go with, but this points me in the right direction.
Gerbing jacket liner so far so good
make or buy some kind of controller around 50 on/off too inconvenient
have this if your handy and or chepa like me

I'm happy with Firstgear heated gear, and I like the dual heat controller, you can dial in the level you want, I think it's Tourmaster just has 3 settings, like an electric blanket. If I were shopping now, I think I'd look at Gerbing micro-wire.
And don't believe everything you think.
Tourmaster does come with a High/Medium/Low setting I rarely use the High Setting. As mentioned above size up the liner slightly smaller (skin tight) and just wear a t-shirt or some kind of thin layer. You want the elements closest to your body. Even in the 10 degree weather all I had on was a long sleeve tech wic type material /heated liner and my leathers jacket.

I was able to buy a little plug for $10 that plugs in where the controller for the Tour Master controller goes and am able to use my heat-troller without any problems, and then switch back to the Tour Master controller for the dual sport. I like the setup because it gives me the flexibility that I need with the convenience of the heat-troller when I want it.

Bump. I think I am in the market for some heated gear this off season.
Gerbing just came out with a new jacket. Better than the old jacket, although I'm not clear on how. Lotsa money, lifetime warranty. Dig the 'microwire' stuff, at least conceptually. Prolly shoulda jumped on last years jacket as the retailers were closing them out, but I missed that boat. Guys at work say the gerbing gear lasts a lifetime.
First Gear looks like it is rebranded Warm 'n Safe. MSRPs are similar, if not identical. Seems like good stuff as it has all the heat zones and features as the Gerbings for a little less money. Only a 1 year warranty though? I like the look of the Gerbing controllers, although they look functionally compatible and priced almost the same.
Tourmaster is cheaper and includes the controller, but doesn't have the heated collar or nearly as many features. I think they are a pass.
Whatcho say?
Tourmaster = 3 year warrantee. Just waiting to get mine back. Come on baby daddy needs some warm loving.... should be this week.

Heated collar is key as far as I'm concerned.
My Gerbings jacket (with heated collar) is more than 13 years old and has over 100,000 miles of use. Works perfectly and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
That's exactly what the guys at work are saying about Gerbing gear. Buy once, use for a really long time.
It isn't all that much more expensive than the Firstgear/WnS stuff.
I agree the heated collar seems like a must-have feature.
Cabelas has heated gloves on sale this week. 4 heat settings, and the gloves use rechargeable batteries rather than plug in. I like that because I can use them for other things. They heat to 85* for up to 8 hours at the low setting. They go up to 135* for 2 hours. I figure even if I do a long ride, I'll bring the charger and charge the batteries for the ride back. But to tell the truth, I can never see myself going out for a ride that long in that kind of cold where I would be gone for more than 2 hours. Hell, even at 50% power they will last up to 4 hours. Plenty of time for a good ride. And you can buy spare rechargeable batteries. Since I will be using these not just for riding but for work as well, I got an extra set of batteries.
Gloves are $175 this week at the store in East Hartford. Normally $200.
edit: I forgot to add, they are made by Gerbings.![]()

I'm thinking of not using heated gear as much and doing more layering, I have determined heated gear is just as bulky as some of the high tech fabrics and wind barriers that retain body heat
looking at this as a base layer
