    how to make helmet warmer

Just wanted to see what everyone does to try to make their helmets a little less drafty over the october november riding months.

I have not put a lot of miles on the bike this year, but am determined to get in at least another thousand or two miles before the season is over.

What do you use to keep your melon warm?

you can go to EMS or REI and try and pick up a balaclava for about 20$

I know underarmor makes some as well as other companies. It should keep your squash toasty.

I think a vacuum cleaner hose over the tailpipe then attached to your helmet like a NASCAR driver would be warm enough. Leave the shield cracked for fresh air though. If you get sick scrap the idea.

    Give your helmet to fromario.
He gives it back to you in the same condition.
    You put on the helmet.
Then he texts you a picture of what he did to it.
Can you feel things heating up.

I have a turtle neck slips over your head then velcros to tabs stuck on the helmet

some helmets have a nose sheild rubber that directs breath off the lens

If i was doing lots I would go get a snowmobbuble insulated helmet
    with the double layer shield.

For neck gaiters and balaclavas, I really like SmartWool. They generally breathe a bit better than synthetic stuff and don't smell as quickly.

Also, if you have a Scorpion (or another helmet that offers one), make sure you have a chin skirt installed. It helps cut down on wind flow from underneath the helmet cooling your chin/neck.

+100 on the SmartWool!! I use thier super thin ski socks because my ski boots are custom molded and have no extra room for regular ski socks.

These things are see through they are so thin and they keep my feet warmer than the heaver socks I used before I got the boots molded!

Can say much for the smell thing since I try not to smell my ski socks.

Snowmobile bibs , neck gaitor (depends on the temps I use the thin or thick style), lined jacket and oversized gaunlet gloves with thin liners .... this set up has allowed riding in the teens with virtually no wind chill factor

Re: how to make helmet warmer

I ride pretty much year round. There are great materials out now that are rated for cold temps. I have never used heated gear. If you look at some of the cold weather technical underwear at snowmobile shops then leather is better than textile for blocking wind, Glove liners and gauntlet gloves, and a balaclava you should be all set.

I'm usually fine with just a neck warmer but if you are gonna do real low temps than balaclava is the way to go. I think most are long enough to cover your neck too.

Balaclava, as everyone else has said, but I've also found that using a Respro Foggy face mask in your helmet is very helpful. It eliminates air currents around the upper part of your face because it forms a barrier over your nose and cheekbones. This has the dual benefits of keeping your face much warmer and preventing your shield from fogging up.

I use Under Armour and a Schampa technical gear neck gator.Rode in to work today and at 40 degrees I was warm and toasty. Bass pro shop sells lots of goodies including three levels of Under Armour. I like number #3 for the lowers and # 1 for the uppers down to about freezing.
