Remember how she way she made you feel when you climbed on top of her. She made all the right noises and shook when when you did it just right. . . Then you sold her cause you got bored with her... Then you look at classified post on FB Marketplace, EBay and Craigslist and there is her picture. Ahhhh yas. That was a great motorcycle. I should get back on one again.
Have you sold a bike and then found another one just like it and purchased it again? Or possibly the exact same bike you bought it back? These stories usually don't make sense to most. Much like the old GF analogy. Your riding friends look at you perplexed. With all the bikes out there, why go back to that???
I can go first with my most recent purchase.
It was 2005 after I had sold my soul to club racing. I was so in debt that I sold my 2000 Harley and had sold my Ducati 996 in 2002 to finance racing. No motorcycle at all at the end of the 2004 season I sold my EX500 shit box race bike and come spring had no ride. The jitters were hitting hard and no money in my pockets I started looking at options. I knew about Argo Cycles from racing and saw they had a Buell XB12R that had crashed and was straight but the frame was scratched. Selling it cheap I was able to pony up the cash to purchase it. I had this fascination with Buell's. They made very similar power to a air cooled Ducati 900SS and had a ton of character. So I rode the piss of out that Buell for a few years. I took it to the Tail of the Dragon and did 2500 miles in one week on it. I did track days on it. I really enjoyed that bike.
The years piled on and I recovered from the bankruptcy of racing and bought more bikes. The Buell went to the back of the garage and didn't get much love. Finally I sold it with over 30K miles on it and never an issue with the bike other than clutch cable snapping while out on it. Yes I made it home without stopping once..
It's always been one of those weird bikes that I wish I hadn't sold. Just to get a ride on it now and then. Well a fool and his money.... Trips down memory lane while looking at FB marketplace. . . A buddy sends me an ebay listing. It was in the center of the country but it was a 25th Anniversary Buell XB12R in the classic Buell white with blue. I bought the stupid thing and long story short. I got it in the garage this weekend. Yesterday was the first ride.
So the old GF is back. How was she? Old! LOL I thought she was faster and whats up with those feeble brakes! LOL But she's a keeper. New pads and a front rotor on order, new tires, air cleaner coming in.... The $$$'s are adding up.
