Would you lane split if it was legal?

Man I rode my bicycle to work this morning. I must have passed about 200 cars by lane splitting, and traffic wasn't really even bad this morning. (I left at 7:30AM)

So... if you could do that on your motorcycle without getting a ticket would you?

It's damn tempting... but I'd want a small motorcycle that was nice and narrow.

    Ben

the only time I have ever lane split is on Rt 16 in conway a couple times, when traffic is backed up and I am going to be making a right turn, I got into a 5mph accident last year doing that.

sounds like a case-by-case basis sort of thing to me...
part of me says "what's the point in being narrow and agile if you can't take advantage of it?"
the other part doesn't wanna piss people off too much... 'specially when i'm so vulnerable on two wheels.

Would you lane split if it was legal?

umm i definitely had to do some lane splitting last night. i went down to Quincy to help cooter get his bike off his truck. (well he didn't need that much help but i wanted to get a lok at the new Superchicken.)

Anyways, coming home, i figure... 10 oclock at night on a sunday. there shouldn't be any traffic on 93.

    WRONG!!!!!!!!
From exit 9 heading north up to exit 24 was at a stand still. it was the most miserable riding experience i have ever suffered through. I tried lane splitting once or twice, and dickhead drivers tried to pinch me, so i argued with few but realized that pretty useless.

there were several harleys on teh side of the road overheated from sitting there, and my twig and berries were starting to get more than just a li'l warm from engine heat.
Then three other sport bikes just came right though splitting and dicing like champs. so i played the follower and jumped on the congo line. a few drivers were still dicks. (jealousy is a tough thing to live with) but then i made it though the traffic a lot easier.

For some reason, 2 1/2 of the three lanes near exit 25 were closed and like 20 Jackhammers were going nuts on the road. the dust was in the air for a coupla miles on the approach. yuuck!

Even quick and civil lane-sharing (like Randy's right-turn scenario) gets honks and yells from the trapped cagers. They have this feeling that they are being taken advantage of even when my gain (of time) is not actually their loss.

And for some drivers it's not far from there to physically trying to cut you off. What a wonderful road culture we have.

If it was legal, and I lived somewhere with shitty traffic, I'd probably do it regularly. Carefully.

On my bicycle I split traffic like crazy.

Actually I can't say that I ever really lane split, don't have a need to, I rarely even see traffic. But, If sombody is stopped in the road, I usually just go around them, in the ditch if need be, aren't SV's some kind of dirt bike?

I agree with MRGTSVIPER every time I have ever lane split those "a" holes in car's try boxing you in. also they hog the center lane I use to lane split everyday when I use to take my bike into work. It would be a cat and mouse game they see you coming the try blocking the the split then you cut to the outside and go right by them with with in the air
