    Looking for old helmets

    Hey everybody,

I'm looking for any medium or large used full face helmets that people are tossing. I'll be using them for kung fu practice, not riding, so they can even be rashed. Don't worry, they will be modified so it'll be obvious you shouldn't ride with them.

    Thanks in advance.

It sort of defeats the purpose of protecting your face if the helmet is too loose

I'm curious how you are going to use them too... I've always used the boxing helmets or the specific sparring gear, I really would hate to hit a helmet.... certainly could break lots of small bones in hand or foot.

    Re: Looking for old helmets

Still curious how sparring with motorcycle helmets is anywhere near a good idea. Is this common practice, or something that has been done before successfully? You hit a heavy bag with mma gloves the right way and that can be painful. I can't even imagine catching a helmet with a solid hit

I've seen it successfully used before from bare knuckles all the way up to full 16oz gloves and beyond to wooden and metal weapons. I doubt any helmet is any harder than someone's forehead.

There are thousands of helmetless motorcycle fatality statistics that would strongly disagree with you

    Re: Looking for old helmets

A helmet's job is to slow down the transfer of energy to the brain. Something very hard (like your skull) doesn't do that job. A helmet is the energy absorbing difference that saves lives.

Using MMA gloves allows the option of an open hand strike as well, which is safer for the attacker's hand than punching.

And finally, we'll be friendly sparring, not all-out wailing on each other, so some measure of control will be encouraged.
