NESR was born because SRNE became what NESR is becoming.
Wheelie for the sake of NESR.
Randy, Jay lives just down the road still.
Next NESR ride i attend ill show up in a T-shirt and sneakers and ill wheelie everytime i get a chance to make up for the current state of things.
That is if its ok with the safety nazi's.
That is so well put. It really is...
Basically it was started because there weren't any area-specific sites (New England) where you could fit in if you were kinda between being squidly and being gear/safety minded. There were no 'in between' sites. For a while NESR was great at doing what it was intended to. But it eventually took a sharp turn without any real notice and has strayed tremendously from what it was supposed to be...
We had an open door policy for those that couldn't fit in elsewhere. We openly took in who other sites didn't want and we tried to talk some sense into 'em. Whether they were 'safety nazis' or all-out squids, we tried to show them the 'in between'. We were after all, out for the same purpose. There have been a few that could see no other way but their own, and they were shown the exit sign...
We wanted to show people that you could ride fast, have fun AND be safety minded all at the same time. We wanted to show the safety nazis that they could lighten up a bit and enjoy the free-wheeling side of riding a bit more, yet we wanted to show the squids that there was a safer way to do shit and still have fun. And we hoped to accomplish all this without being total fucktards to either...
Unfortunitely, we don't fit into the neat little package anymore. And I highly doubt we ever will. People here are far to intollerent of ANYTHING that doesn't fit neatly into THEIR ideals. Even more sad is that this site has now become precisely what we were all getting away from in the first place: overbearing, intollerant assholes with a tight little tunnel vision of what THEY think riding should be...
I can't pinpoint exactly when or where this sharp turn took place. But this place is now what it was never supposed to be and it's a complete mess. And it'll most likely never be what it was intended to be again...
VERY good question, Randy. Thank you for remembering... :hellyeah:
Do I get a cookie?
Seriously, I'm fucking STARVING! I'll do a wheelie for it!
I think for the sake of variety, I will lead one FULL RACE GEAR ride where we will all don our 1 pc suits & "slow race" through town squares at 5mph in full tucks.
I will then lead a squid ride where the only gear allowed will be a helmet. Regular cloths still required... sorry Randy. I know you like riding nekkid.
with what Jay said... the internet is where people come to complain. You can never make EVERYONE happy. I have been here on and off since 2001. I have learned a great deal and no where to stay away from.... this being one of those places.. ha!
I guess you have never been on a ride with 1/2 squid, TheIglu, Rmbbikes, Jen750, Skiierx, Mycirus, and a few others I can't remember. Got so bad at one point we wouldn't post rides cuz of that shit. We ride "spirited" as it's called and respectfell of each other. I heart NESR rides.
KB
You all know I would have to chime in... :twofinger:
Who says You can't have your cake and eat it too...
Granted I only got here in 2006, I was gettng my balls busted then and I gave it right back. I got the impression that this was not a squidly board and the membership was all for "sprited rides" (Fast rides with both wheels on the ground) with Gear. Cool
I have yet to go on an Official NESR ride...
I get the point that ridiing "sprited" does not make you a squid. I think trying to talk sense into a squid doesn't make you a "Safety Nazi"
Now I am not saying that I do not ride "sprited" and I even loft the front wheel on occasion, or even the rear... :naughty: (I was into the whole stunting thing at one time), I consider where and when I do it and I am willing to pay the consequences.
Is this irresponsiable on my part? Sure?
Does it make me a hypocrite as well. You betcha.
That DOES NOT mean I am gonna condone irresponsiable behaviors on the part of others.
Some of these "squids" never hear how irresponsiable they are.
Some of the Nazi's never learn to have fun on their bikes.
I think NESR has a good mix. You all just need to stop taking the internet so seriously!!
well at least its not like BARF where you get a 7 day suspension for name calling.
went on my first group ride in my first season last summer and had a great time and learned alot. The pack of guys i rode with taught me alot about riding in the 4-5 hours i rode with them then i did all summer. good people on here for sure.
WOW....
As a relative newbie here's what I like about NESR -
- It's an active and diverse community. And, mostly tolerant.
- There are plenty of people here whose philosophy aligns with mine, which, in a nutshell is,
- ride fast
- ride safe
- gear apprpriately
- TRY to be a good ambassador to the sport even when my riding might be
viewed negatively by others.- There are lots of folks I enjoy riding with in this community.
- There are folks who have a different view of what the sport should be but they are mostly respectful when on a group ride.
- I don't have to go on rides where the riding isn't along the lines of what I like.
- I like that there are racers here. There's a lot to learn.
What I wish
- I wish I could be more tolerent of the stunters/shorts and tee shirt crowd.
- And if not...that I could be a better teacher
- And I wish I weren't considered a NAZI because of these short comings.
It looks like NESR has evolved and will continue to do so...
Maybe a 'Mission Statement', as silly as that sounds, isn't such a bad idea. And like many things, it would be the journey that is important...
is it ironic that certain people are posting?
stoner and frank, get some bikes and come down on a denno/daytrader group ride - may be new, but get it - NESR aint completely dead - just on life support
Not , just you with your overwhelming desire to teach everybody the right way to do things and impose your morals as you see them as regarding all aspects of motorcycling.
The above statement might seem a little harsh but it's how you come across
Fucity fuck fuck will go down as one of the more brilliant statements ever made about a motorcycling scene.
I still remember the famous NESR weekend ride to VT and got to see Frank pulll a very sweet wheelie down 89 , a great weekend where we set out on bikes and ended up in a truck and trailer PRICELESS...
Everything evolves eventually but the initial spirit of NESR is dying a slow death and that initial spirit was not giving a rats ass and just out to have a good time with likeminded people..
In other words everybody stop being so fucking serious and rightous and lighten up.
Life ain't easy being short fat and greasy
I just like to talk about motorcycles and waste time at work
