If you need to get a rebuilt title in mass then you are gonna want to stay as close to stock as possible and be meticulous about keeping receipts. The process is a PITA unless you are a dealer that does it all the time. They make it as hard as possible.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

If you can hold out till over the winter people dump parts and whole bikes cheap! I scored a ton of stuff for my RC super cheap a few years back over the winter.
Stick with OEM parts off of E-Bay and put it back together as cheap as possible. If you put performance parts on there you will never get what it's worth in return.
Only way you will get your $ in full plus profit and say a wage for your effort and time involved is find a potential buyer now and let him customize it with a nice fat deposit. They can choose exactly what they want whether it be a street fighter, race bike or stock.
Just my worthless 2 cents..
