You can buy cruise control for like $250

Yes, but aren't those just throttle locks rather than the electronic one that's built into the controls which truly maintains speed rather than just a throttle setting?
A cruise control is just part of why I'd want one of the XRx machines. It also comes with a lot of other accessories and especially the ride mode controls.

That's one of the things I'm hoping, is a lot of people off load used 800xc for the new xcx. We stopped in National Powersports yesterday to just look real quick. Looked at the wee first and it was pretty decent, she actually said it doesn't look bad either. I think she's the only one to ever say that. Haha. Sat on it, thing is a couch compared to the CBR, both for her and myself. They had a new xc, and she likes that a bit more like I do. It feels a little bigger, but that's expected. Going to wait til it warms up and see if I get get a test ride in.
I haven't looked into the gen 2 vee much to be honest, but ill take a look.
not sure what rich is refering to for $250,
you can find Rostra Cruise control (yes real cruise control) for about $170
or Audiovox for a little more
the old vacuum operated Audiovox CS100 Universal is now obsolete

If anyone pays $250 for a throttle lock they need their heads smacked in. I am pretty sure he's talking about retrofiting a vacuum driven system. I have one in a box in my garage I got for free and just haven't gotten around to installing. It requires modifying the bike a fair amount to add the servo and vacuum reservoir. Most delete the charcoal canister and put the reservoir there. Not your average mod. Definitely not plug and play. And nothing like an OE setup on a fly-by-wire bike. (I read the new T800 is fly-by-wire.)
Gen 1 Wee has a look that creeps up on you. One day you catch yourself standing there thinking "that bike ain't half bad looking". You feel guilty about it. Then go for another ride and all is well again.
Gen 2 Wee looks even better, IMO.
Gen 2 Vee is not a looker in my book. It hasn't grown on me yet at all. But the spec sheet is a lot more attractive.
Yeah, we were looking more at the gen 2 wees (they had a gen 1 too). They actually don't look half bad, and its something I think I could get along with.
Yeah. I would probably stick to the gen 2's as well. My point was simply that the look grows on you.
If you want a test ride on a new Triumph, look up their demo truck and plan in advance. Most dealers will not offer test rides on trumpets. They're also not volume bikes so its rare to find a dealer that has a demo bike on site.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief

I appreciate the info on the cruise controls but I'm not interested in trying to fit an aftermarket one to a bike. I lust for the Tiger 800 XRx for more reasons than just the CC.

Man, that's tough Randy.
Unlike my old Triumph's which were wired by the Prince of Darkness Joseph Lucas & Co, my Hinckley Triumphs have been simply outstanding. I've never come close to overloading the very generous output of the Tigers' alternator, and none has ever even blown a fuse. That includes my Sprint RS, Tiger 955i and the current Tiger 800.
My Sprint RS gave me a little trouble on a hard riding track day, that turned out to be a loose fastener holding down the coil over the center cylinder's spark plug. Later the cooling fan blade came off the motor (over 50,000 miles on it), though the motor still spun fine.
The electrics on these bikes have been given much attention to for dependability, as I'm sure the new Triumph folk didn't want the sins of the past to follow them into the future. And they've been successful with that effort.

remember that I had the SV, long distances with the small engine, while it can do it, is tiring with the engine wound up all day long, been there, done that, Sv actually fits my ergonomics better but does not have the touring support in the aftermarket that the strom has and not the real estate for accessories, for my needs, if I had the cash today, I would be looking at a Tenere or the 1200 trumpet, maybe the 800 (and the Stelvio if guzzi had a better dealer network)
I know the new V-strom 1000 is suppose to have the bugs fixed, but I have little faith in the budget aspect of Suzuki, doubt you will ever see my buy one again

Who said anything about distance? I think finding the best Iron Butt Rally bike is not what this topic is about.
I imagine that the majority of your riding isn't high speed (80mph+) highway riding. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The Vstrom 650 has a smooth as silk sewing machine motor compared to the bag of hammers 1K, or even the SV650 for that matter. It's not much lighter than the 1K and the ergo's are nearly identical to the 1K. For me, it happily sings along at 85mph all day long without feeling winded or tired. I can get off my Wee and hop onto either of my 1200's and not feel as though it was a dog. In fact, because of the superior wind protection, I find it more relaxing to ride on the highway than my ZRX or Vmax (even with aftermarket wind screens on either).
Whenever I go somewhere far away, especially highway, both my HP monsters stay put in the garage and I get on that barely adequate wheezing tired little Vstrom 650.
As a side benefit? I get a consistent low 60's mpg on the Wee with the lowest octane fuel I can find.
.....
Randy, have you ridden a Vstrom 650?

I did
never said it was, but IBA rides are why I chose the 1000
you are absolutely correct, and that is reason I have kept the SV with the intent to rebuild
no doubt, but have you ridden 1650 continuous (on any bike)
I said dog with 17t... you telling me yer running a 17t up front
wind protection is not the issue, its keeping the engine cranked all day, not 4 hours, not 8 hours or 12 hours, I am talking 20-24 hours
you're not a barn door in the wind
yes, dealer let me test one for the better part of a day when I bought my Vee
it's not the right bike for long distance highway for a big person, especially 2up
