I did some mods on mine front end
I got the lower fueling corrected but we all should blame epa for that, rest of the world did NOT have fueling issues
I store mine inside and only do like 5000 a year but so far so good
Dirty ish suspension best for real world roads

I changed the gearing almost immediately
'07s (the model year mine is) is the only year that Suzuki has not replaced ECUs, fueling problems started only after my wiring harness and sensors began to fail, when I purchased it, the only higher electrical output available at the time was the GS
I did not buy it for off road, it's a 500lb bike
I have owned it for only 8 years and only dissed it for the past 4

Damn straight Randy, ride that thing in spite of it.![]()
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
I'd like to ride a TL1000S on the track.
Just kidding, I don't want to die.
They are a blast to ride on the track and curious why the "I don't want to die" comment. I have ridden mine at Loudon on many occasions and had nothing but fun. It is no longer on the bike but when I had my full ti race only Yosh exhaust on it the thing sounded awesome and went like stink too.
Anyone have a line on some hard panniers for the back of a DL650?
Looking for ideally the big aluminum ones. Would need the mounting racks as well.
Also looking for skid plate/crash bars for the front of it.

These are tusk panniers from rocky mtn. $250 for the set. Aluminum. 30-something L each. Includes key'ed locking clasps and the tie down points on top. Must be patient though as they sell out every time they get a boat-load from China or wherever the hell they are made. Everything I could think to bring on a weekend camping trip fits entirely inside these muthers!
No mounting kit included. The only bike they had (or had) a full kit for was the KLR. I already had a set of Givi luggage racks on mine that I mounted the E21's to. I like those racks a lot. I was able to fabricate a mount for these tusk panniers using some crap from the home despot. I can show photos of what I did if you like. They aren't quick mount. But I am happy.
If you do get them, loctight EVERYTHING before mounting them up. I've already lost one tie-down bracket.
My 'strom came to me with the Givi engine guards. I like them very much. They have held up well.
No feedback on skid plates. Thus far I have not felt the need.
Looks like a set of those, plus racks from dirtracks.com, and I'd be into the game for $400-$500 all in.

That's somewhat for looks and somewhat for my personal needs. I get some dents on my oil filter from my normal commute (you've seen the best of my roads) due to rocks and crap. I'd like to get some protection under there. Being a Vstrom, it's not a dirt bike like an SV is, but I do ride it on rough rutted washed out dirt roads with lots of loose rocks bouncing off my front tire.

I put a Hyde Racing skidplate on my Wee-Strom. It had the advantage of being a lot cheaper than the other options, it looks kind of cool, and it's lighter. Not the thing if you're going to be bouncing off rocks and logs offroad, but perfect for deflecting gravel/etc.

Score Givi monokey racks, a SW Motech Crash bar/skidplate combo for $300 shipped.
So I'm all farkled up for short of $600. Still have funny munny left for some LED driving lights on the bars, a decent tent and a thermarest.
Did I mention I'm planning a week long east coast/gulf coast/mississippi river trip for this spring?
Current plan, changing daily.

Meh. My cheapness >> your cheapness here. I did roughly the same for a fraction the price shopping the hardware isle at home despot. The only thing I don't have that kit does is the fancy plastic handles. My setup is a little more sturdy as it uses the existing eyelets on the givi rack.
But. Yeah.
Not just hairy, needy too.
