Ah, that explains the good braking and strong battery. Thanks!

I'm really liking the new 650, sucks that it didn't get the suspension of the 1k though

Yuck. Liked the '12-16 "glee" better. One of the things that's always kept me at arms length from the 2nd gen DL1k was the awful beak and cyclops headlight treatment. Now they both have it. Boo.
And I'm sure they did nothing to lighten the thing. Meh.
Is that traction control? On the Wee?

Go ride that marble sized shit they put on the roads in WV. You could break traction at 1/4 throttle on a briggs powered go kart on that stuff. Fun, until it isn't.
Yeah, I did. Remember? WV on my Wee, alone for two days. Being alone, I'd wager I wasn't wickin it up as much as one does with people there to help pick up the pieces.
No crashes. I'm used to riding on shit. You've seen my roads.

I wasn't wicking anything when I had my incident. That is part of why I was so surprised when it happened. Not like I spend my days going knee to knee anyway. Shit happens. Even when you're riding a bike nobody has any respect for at speeds you think are harmless.
TC wouldn't be the first feature I'd ask for on a "wee" strom. But given how much of a commodity it has become I am not at all surprised to see it available. Wonder if it was much more than a software thing. Maybe a faster/better ECU?
Has anyone own a new Dl1000?

If you never want to service your bike, get the S10.

I dig the new look, and TC makes some sense for an all-season commuter in the new-motorcyclist market especially. Competing with the Street Twin on that front. Toss me the keys to an XT with some big soft bags.

I've been seriously lusting over the AT, but my bank account is keeping me away from it right now. The wee strom XT (both 2016 and the new one) and the lower price tag attached are making me seriously consider it....
My brother has an original 2002 Vstrom 1K he also has a 2013 S10
Surprising how more often the Vstrom goes on the trips
Next summer I will be riding 1 out to the beartooth rally

rode the V1200 into work today. and man that motor is a gem... SO MUCH FREAKING POWER. ha
Fixed my damned brakes..
Ready for this.
Was the fleabay chinese levers. Swapped back to stock and suddenly I have solid brake feel again. Go figure. The cheapos work great on the SVs.. just not the 'strom.
Ripped 'er to work today. 51k and change and she's still got it in spades.
My mild adventure touring has inspired my buddy to get his first bike (he has been riding dirt bikes for a few years). To make a long story short, I think a V-Strom 650 would be ideal for his wants: spend <$5.5k, something newer, something he can keep for a while, and do mild adventure touring). He doesn't want an "old" bike so I think a 2nd Gen is the oldest he would consider. I've never ridden one or even considered one. Anything to watch or look out for? Good idea for a first bike? He turned down my idea of getting the Versys-X 300.
Should meet all those criteria nicely. My first thought was that it's a tall bike for a new rider, but if he's been riding dirt bikes e should be used to that. Nice gen 2's can be found ~$4-4.5g. The OEM side cases are almost as wide as a car, so don't let that be a requirement, tons of aftermarket options available. Stromtrooper is a great forum for info.
If your buddy isn't out in CA with you, my nicely setup FZ6 is for sale...
