How would you RANK your gear in order of importance?

The Gear
Helmet, gloves, boots, pants, jacket.

If helmet is #1 then you might ride in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops without gloves.

If gloves is #1 then you might wear the above sans helmet... You get the picture.


This might be difficult....

For me on the street. 1. Pants, 2. Gloves, 3. Helmet, 4. Jacket, 5. boots (I think)

That said I wouldn't be really riding just putting without the gear on.

I just won't ride in shorts. I think it looks silly and I just can't do it. (Unless it is on the pitbike at the track but I still feel wrong, almost like riding naked when I am in shorts)

I would rather ride in pants, a t-shirt, no gloves, no helmet and sneakers than ride in shorts with all the other gear...

Gloves would have to come next because they are first to hit the pavement and I know even if I am riding safely because I don't have the gear on I might still land on my hands.

The helmet would have to be next.
Then the jacket.
I can live with boots being last

I wear protective jacket of some sort, helmet, gloves, some sort of boot, and at least Draggin Jeans almost all the time.

The most important piece is the one that protects me the most in any given incident. I have had crashes where my helmet never touched but my hip and shoulders were protected by jacket and pants. Ive had crashes where the only damage was to my gloves...

...so, for me, IT DEPENDS...

If I knew ahead of time which was more important I'd be clairvoyent. As it is i'm only impotent...!!!

Jacket, gloves, boots, long pants and helmet is the minimum for me... Sometimes I wear sneakers for an 1/8th mile trip, but feel like a squid when I do.
An actual "ride" gets full gear.

-It is a toss up for me on the first 2 Helmet/Pants. I wouldn't wear shorts, and I always wear my helmet.
-Gloves I wear all the time.
-Jacket, I don't always wear but I always wear long sleeves.
-I always wear shoes not always over the ankle. I wouldn't wear flip flops though.

I think if you had said "rank" instead of "rate", you'd get closer to the response you were after. But just in case I'm wrong:

My helmet rates an 8
My riding suit rates a 9
My boots rate a 9
My gloves rate a 10

Suit is a 2 because it prevents 90% of road rash and has spine, knee, hip, and elbow armor so it also prevents blunt trauma. Boots are a 3 because hands are easier to live without (while they heal) than feet.

One of the biggest reasons I don't do it. Burned my leg one to many times just "tuning" a bike running up and down the driveway.

Add earplugs to mine at the end. The only gear I've ridden without is over pants. I've gone out with Jeans on instead. That never became a habit though.
