just did the 1500 mile butt burner thing from kansas city MO to home on my GS1150 and the difference in running as it got cooler at night was really noticable. The bmw is air/oil cooled and ran really smoothly the colder it got .
1602 miles in 35.5 hours.
As you always say Randy cold air=free horsepower

So colder air helps by eliminating (or greatly reducing) the energy loss in transfer due to heat, correct?

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. Eisenhower 1961
yep, noticed the colder air on a 63 degree evening ride on the dirt bike...for the carbureted bikes, it means the air screw should get turned a little farther in, or the needle should be raised a little bit![]()
That is exactly what I do here in Boston, LOL.
I wrote a thread last week about the effect of temperature on acceleration and got some nice, detailed responses. If my bike ran the way it does now when it was hot I would never need or want anything more. But of course human nature being what it is..... One day there will be an F800 Beemer in the driveway. Still no rocket, but damn fast enough, good usable power all through the range.
Time for a ride!
