Picked up a low mileage '03 SV650 from a friend in MA Saturday. Tried to get the VIN check done today so I could register it, but the officer doing the check told me he needs to see the VIN twice on the bike. The VIN is stamped on the headstock as usual, but it looks like sticker on the left side of the frame was a victim of a lowside (didn't realize this until I got home and Googled it), and I couldn't find it anywhere else. They gave me the number for the Motor Vehicle Safety and Emission Control Division and told me to call them to figure out what to do.
VIN matches the title, bike has been registered in MA for years, and the seller is an honest guy - if the VIN sticker was removed, it's was done years ago, and there's no way I'll be able to track down the original owner. Anyone dealt with anything like this before? I was hoping to get the VIN check done and get it registered before we get more snow.
Get on a Suzuki/SV650 forum and ask if the VIN is else where on the bike. Chances are it's on the engine somewhere.

Yeah, been asking - looks like Suzuki uses engine numbers that don't match the VIN, and I doubt I'll be able to find the MSO that would relate them![]()
The engine should have the EIN number which is different from the VIN but some states have the EIN recorded on the title though like CA. No idea about the NE states though.
Ha a little late i suppose.
What town are you in? I don't know if it has to be the town you live in or not, but try a small town police department as they seem to overlook a few minor detailsExeter for example

Called the DMV this morning - I need to get it to Providence tomorrow after 12:30. I don't own a truck, which means I'm going to have to go get a temp plate in the morning, then ride it down there - of course it's supposed to rain/snow (please let it be rain...)
I'd wait for nicer weather to get this all done, but as far as I know, I only have a week to get it registered.
Thanks for the offer
Hopefully I can get it resolved through 'official' channels, since I'm really not trying to pull anything funny.
sounds like typical RI bullshit
