Well i started working for South Shore Motorsports in quincy about a month ago, and well i live in chelsea. So thats a 40mi commute each day in our wonderfull i93 traffic (oh thanks to the tunnel issue its even worse). And i just can't justify putting anymore miles on the duc only to sit in traffic and occasionally overheat. I have no car so its not like i had a choice.
But seeing that SSM is a suzuki dealer and the fact that i've always eyeballed naked bikes (i.e. monsters, sv's, fz6's, etc), i just couldn't resist on getting an 06 sv650 (naked of course). Far more practical to ride than the duc as far as commuting goes, i'll just save the duc for weekend rides. I shoulda bought a car but i just haven't found anything i want/like for my budget. So now i'm 6k lighter in the bank account, and most likely shrinking each day since i'll be ordering misc parts at work.
anywho here's a couple of crappy pics after a few mods.

You suck at life. Why don't you quit?
My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
Sweet bike! I had a choice between a Monster and my SV. I chose the SV for the same reasons you did, commuting.
Plus it's just damn fun to ride!!!
my boy just bought a 93 zxr10 from yall today. That was my first time there. Thats a huge store, great selection to choose from. I wish I knew bout yall before I purchased mine
how will you commute when snow starts falling?
"fuckit!"
I miss my SV 650 ('03)! Now that it's offered in my favorite color combo (black and red) I really wish I had the $$ to buy another one! It was my first bike. Very forgiving for the beginner, but, also very capable. That bike was MADE for short/tight twisties. You can totally out-ride Hyabusa's and RC-51's on that thing: I've been there and done that![]()
I only had 2 mods I did on mine: 1)louder horns 2)Yoshimura race only slip on (basically a wide open pipe wish mesh and glass on the inner walls). Very nice sound!
I put about 36,000 miles on mine in the 2 years and change I had it and I don't even commute! I'd just get home from work and ride, mow the lawn then ride, get up on Sunday and ride again.....

patsv650,
i may have to pick your brain a bit, so i can this thing to handle a little bit better. I already know that the d220's aren't going to cut it for me already, so what would you recommend for tires? I've already talked to a few other SV owners and said that the stock tires are junk if i ride on them the way i ride the duc.
and as far as when the snow is falling, i may just have to take the T or possibly find a winter beater for under 1k or something like that.

There are some good tire discussions over here: http://forum.svrider.com/Originally posted by duey

I'm running D208s right now but might switch to Conti Attacks, or Pilot Powers next.
Duey,
I rode mine on what was stock tires for '03 and had no issues that I could notice, especially being inexperienced at the time. Plus, I can't remember for the life of me what they were. Been a year and then some.Someone else here may have better advise.
One common issue on the SV's though is the suspension. I hear some people change the front springs and/or oil viscosity and some also do the rear to an aftermarket or some other bike's shock that fits (i.e. GSXR) I had no issues with the suspension, but, I didn't know any better either. Probably would have enjoyed it more had I taken the time and money to experiment.
I just changed the front springs on my 82-cb750 (cuz they were the original 24+ year old springs) to Progressive and it went from feeling like the forks were packed with marshmellows to an actual motorcycle suspension. Before, I'd hit the brakes and wondered when the headlight was gonna hit the fender!
