The rules have been changed from 990cc to 800cc. to try to reduce the speed and make it safer. Funny thing is the new 800s are already turning time just as quickly as the 900s
It's the new regulation put into effect to try to limit how fast and how powerfull the bikes are becoming. It's a saftey concern issue and has been talked about for a number of years now and tested during this season, even in a couple of GP races.
