Check out this photo of Rossi's rear tire from Superbikeplanet.com
Man is this one shagged or what?
What would cause this? Manufacturer defect? But twice like this in one season?
Maybe his traction control is doing this?

what track was it?
That's from this weekend. Laguna Seca !
Other Michelin riders didnt seem to be affected like this except Colin.
Nicky's tire actually looked similar, but not quite as bad. Traction control may be the cause, but it's also the cure!
I think it was the fresh pavement ripping the tires apart. At tests on several freshly paved tracks, tires were a real problem. Apparently the surface mellows as it cures and gets used.
You could see the tire just flexing and biting and hopping the bike around especially after the hairpin and coming up the hill after turn5. I would bet that was ripping the tires apart.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
My tire always looks like that after a weekend at loudon!
KB
It really looks like crud with harsh shadows on the tire not gouges from the tire
Glen Beck is John the Baptist

Colin's tire was junk too. Seems most MotoGP pundits are chaulking it up to the Yamaha's this season, lack of proper setup, and it just beating the crap out of the tires. Isn't it always said that if your suspension isn't set up right it will wear the tire more than normal. The Yamaha's have been handling like crap all year and they keep destroying tires.
Nicky did a bunch of burnouts too btw.
Boston --> San Diego
I don't think that chunking is from burnouts, I'd say it's from riding the balls off those machines. I'd like to see what rossi was doing for times before his bike blew out.
Plus where the tire is chunked on the left side is wear it would have been riding when I could see the bikes getting all out of shape.
