    sprocket gearing

having a discussion with a friend about gearing.
he's saying 1 tooth in the front like 2.75 teeth in the rear.

i always thought it was just over 2 teeth,

can someone enlighten me and site some facts?
i'm looking online now, but not finding anything concrete.

basically, is 16/47 and 15/45 around the same?

16/47 would be closer to 15/44 than 15/45.

A little quick math will tell you what's what (lower number equals better acceleration here):
    16/47=.3404
    15/44=.3409
    15/45=.3333
    and 15/47=.3191

It's not a fixed relationship, it all depends on what your starting ratio is.

    Re: sprocket gearing

1 tooth in the front is always going to be between 2 and 3 in the rear (giggity), sometimes its closer to 2 than 3 and sometimes its closer to 3 than 2

on my SB i run 14/44 which is .3181
on amandas SV ive got 15/47 on there which is .3191

at NJMP and VIR i usually go up a tooth in the front which makes it .3409

I tried to run 15/45 at Thunderbolt and it wasn't tall enough. (I run 15/46 ad NHMS) I was topped out on the front straight in 6th gear before the S/F line. I assume you run 15/45 at NHMS, so, as you mentioned, 15/44 might do the trick.

    Re: sprocket gearing

Sav can run 20/35 gearing at NJMP, since he's never gonna race there anyways. he's like 5/5 on bailing for NJMP race weekends.
