The term squid started when an experienced rider (not me) saw the jackass in full leathers, full boots, and full gloves heading east on Route 9 (toward Keene) WITHOUT A GODDAMN HELMET.

I like this definition....
It actually comes from a real life Squid, and its about the style of riding that a new rider does.
When a Squid is swimming, it can shoot through the water really fast, but it can't turn. So if you watch one, they slowly rotate till they are pointing the right direction, then SHOOT across the water, till they need to turn again, at which point they slow down to a stop, rotate again, then shoot away again.
So thats why they call the poor riders squids. When a new rider is trying to show how fast they are, they FLY down the straight away, and then brake wayyyy down for the corner, tip toe around it, then shoot away to the next one at full throttle.
Also, thats why a lot of new riders think they need a faster, bigger, liter bike, because they are only thinking of that strait away shot from one corner to the next. They can hold their little bike wide open on the straits so they want something faster. And since they can't keep up with experienced riders that may happen to be on a liter bike, they blame it all on the fact that they are on smaller bikes, not realizing the good rider isn't even full throttle down the straits, that he is making up all that distance in the twisties with smooth riding, not horse power.
hey sounds like me. but you know it's not all about twisties although that is fun too. drag racing looks like fun. wheelie/stoppie or stunt are also fun but that is illegal on public. but riding fast twistie is legal but just as dangerous.
so you say experience riders make up on twistie and noobs make up on straight. same different.
this is fucked up.
you should not be so stereotype.
"fuckit!"
It's my belief that the term 'squid' as used to describe motorcyclists originated back some time when 2-strokes were making the street scene (early/mid 80's). The way they would SCREAM down the road and the black smoke tailing behing 'em is where *I* think the term really comes from...
But that's just me...![]()
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
