    SV650 vs TLS

Ok, here's the deal: I need a new bike. I think my GSXR is sold. I want a v-twin for under $5k. I am starting my third year of riding and I basically suck. I can't doo wheelies, stopies or burn outs. Now, I know that doing these things makes me a squid, not a good rider, but being able to do them demonstrates a mastery of controle over the motorcycle that I have not yet attained. By all acounts I am a good rider in all situations when both tires are on the ground. That's what I'm told, any way. I know that I have yet to be in an accident, despite a few close calls.
That being said, when I sold the GSXR I planned on getting an SV650 and pimping it out some, and riding the SNOT out of that thing. The trouble is that in the fall of my first year of riding I stepped up from a 650 Nighthawk to a TL100s. I loved this bike but a friend of mine was way interested in it. I had an SV too, and sold him the TL and kept the SV because I knew that he TL was too much for me at the time. But damn, I loved that bike. It was very comforable to me, I loved the power and the sound and the REDness of it. I loved the way it looked, the way it smelled, all of it. I have the chance to buy it back for what I sold it for. My buddy had a lot of work done to her: engine work, custom clutch, and other things like that. The PC II is dead on and the Full Yoshis are loud as shit! The bike is as dialed in as any TLs I have seen. The thing make 145+ RWHP now and 80+ fps of tourke. That's like a GSXR 100 who's whole power band has been squished down into the first 8k RPMs. I rode it that way, and it is sweet, but I'm looking to more than ride it, I'm looking to DOMINATE it, and I think that that's a fight that I might loose. Good, used SVs are always out there, THIS TL, MY TL will disapear shortly and be gone. I can't do two this time (inless I pick up the $2k Katanna to romp on....
You guys (and gals) know how to ride and know how you came by your skills. WHat is YOUR recomendation here? Keep in mind that If my old ass falls off of this thing and I break a hip, I'm all done! My heart says TL, but my Head says SV.

Follow your head. If you didn't like the ergos of your GSXR, you won't like the TL much. SV650s are great and comfortable bikes plus they are cheap to buy and own (very easy on tires and chains).

Not the casea t all. I used to own this bike. I rode it a whole bunch, and never even thought about the ergos. Not good thoughts, not bad thoughts, none. It has Heli bars on it, so that mihgt have something to do with it.

I guess 160s are cheeper than 190s! The operating costs are definately cheeper, especailly now that the TL gets roughly the same milaege as an SUV! Still, to build one of those again, further down the line is going to be costly, and probably impossable, concidering the inrternal work that was done on it. I'm never going to be able to afford a Ducatti or Aprillia. AN SV 1000 is just a pale imitation of and SV, and the VTR is just...boaring (althought the new blue one is nice, but there's NO WAY I'm paying that kind of money for one of those things new!).

It does, and he has: I've seen the graphs. It's a 97 and with the full race Yoshis and PC II (with the shitty off the shelf map that was in it) it had 125/74 when I sold it to him.
Don't matter any how. I spen the whole day sitting around waiting for a guy who never showed up. Still have a GIXER 4 sale.

WHat year/color is it? Is it an SVs or an SV? The price seems a little steep, even with the mods. Is the Jardine a "slip" on or a full system?

145 would be quite abit for a TL. did he get his hands on the old Yoshi superbike parts or something?
A friend had a '98 R-model with full exhaust and Yosh programmer, it put out 122hp.

He knows a guy named Wames at Sky Cycle who< I guess, is some kind of TL nut/tuner. They did a bunch of work on the "top end" and then got some other guy that Wames knows to do a bunch of work on the "bottom end". He told me exactly what was done at the time, but it was just a bunch of words to me. It was THOUSANDS of dollars worth of work that he got done for the price of the parts because... well, because he's Ed. It's all moot any way, since I can't sell the GSXR.

Yep , deposit is down on the bike , riding it back monday since the bank isn't open on sundays. And man the thing sounds weaaaakkk lol , definitely needs a exhaust. Gonna have to flip allota burgers to get 500 bucks and blow it on a full exhaust and jet kit

Also , about your bike , theres some dude with a 01 SV650 with 12k miles that's trying to trade for a CBR 900 RR , but I think he'll settle for your GSXR 750 , hes ad is on SVrider.com

    Peace,
    Nate
