    The "What If..." thread.

So I just read a thread over on ODFU about a rider who got intentionally tapped from behind by a car while sitting at a red light... Figured i'd ask for some instances where something happened you weren't particularly pleased about & what the proper course of action would be...

In this person's case, the rider flipped the driver off, who immediately threw up their hands & returned the favor. I probably woulda done the same.

What's the PROPER course of action? I'm guessin you should probably signal to the driver to pull to the side of the road w/ you & attempt to get all their information, then skrew em to the wall for a full computrack check-up etc. If they don't pull over w/ you, get the plate number & report them to the cops for a hit & run.

    sound reasonable?

What other hypotheticals can you guys come up w/ or actual scenarios have you guys experienced where ya coulda taken a better course of action?

    The "What If..." thread.

I thought about what if some one scratched/hit/kocked over/sat on/spit on/splashed mud on/keyed my bike in the school parking lot. I am pretty sure just thinking about what I would do might get me a night in jail.

I read that on ODFU and I thought the same thing as you, kinda strange ehh?

What would I have done in that exact same situation? Something not to smart i'm sure I'd probably gently put my kickstand down, dismount the bike and somehow accidently trip/fall/jump backwards onto the hood of their car.. Shall we call for a police report?

I'd probably try to restrain myself from breaking antenna's, mirrors, emblems and kicking their door panels in, and stop my bike in the middle of the road in front of them, walk back to the car (all the while noting Make, Model, Plate #) and ask them to kindly pull to the side of the road while the police were called? Or just smash something off their car and ride off into the sunset.

It would be hard not to understand why an otherwise rational person would get off their bike and pummel the person who bumped into them.

    The "What If..." thread.

I had a run in with someone at a red light while in FL....

they pulled up next to me, revved his engine a few times, I looked over and said "nah, not today" and just as the light turned green, the passenger flicked their cigarette at me, and yelled P#$$Y at me....

the cig landed on my seat at my crotch and I was able to flick it off me before I got burned.......I picked it up and raced up to the next light.....

I got up to them just as the ligh turned green, and flicked the butt right off his head and it lande somewhere in the car...

I took off and never saw em again......

    The "What If..." thread.

i was behind a pickup on the freeway in AZ and i could see the passenger keep looking at me n her mirror. then she threw her cigarette out the window and it actually landed in my collar in the front burning my neck. so here i am scurrying for a lit cigarette in my jacket at 80mpfh with my girl on the back in rush hour. i get it out and speed up to the truck and pull up along side and before i could flip her off she flipped ME the bird! i was so pissed off that now that truck only has one mirror

I wonder what would cause a cage driver to intentionally bump the back of a bike

the only thing I can think of is the motorcyclist behavior, I think the situation can b easily avoided by not acting like a odfu sqid

    The "What If..." thread.

I'm trying to create a thread that will help someone take the right course of action in a high stress, high tension situation instead of following their instincts & either punch someone's lights out and get arrested because of it, or do nothing at all & get skrewed by their insurance company cuz they didn't get the person's information. I'm nearing the end of a 16 hour work day... I've been here since 6:45am, don't get out till 10:45, and get to do it all over again for the next two days.... now for the third and most obvious time, please keep this on fucking topic.

    The "What If..." thread.

The best course of action is......remain calm and DONT sink to their level. Why? If they didn't knock the bike over and there was no witnesses, it's your word ( Mr squidly "crotch rocket" driver) against theirs. See where i'm coming from? No damage, you lose. Just step off, get the plate # and ask WTH? If he wants to escalate it, probably not since you'll be leathered and armored up, let him strike first so it's self defense when you pummell him. Remember, you will not win if he gets a case of road rage going. His car's a lot bigger than you, and, it'll hurt.
If there's damage to the bike, look at him so you can I D him later and get the plate #. If he scoots, that's leaving the scene. Chances are, you'll never prove intent as they'll say it was just an accident and he left because he was scared. They'll then plead it down to a "Parking on pavement" violation and you'll get sued for emotional distress.
    Cheers, Lee S.

    The "What If..." thread.

i flipped a guy off one time who was driving like an ass and he almost killed me. he followed me for miles trying to ram me off the road. any attemts i made to pull over he got so close to me i was afraid hed run me over and keep going. the speed of my bike is the only reason i was able to get away from him. it was the scariest situation ive ever been in. now if something happens that doesnt cause damage to me or my bike i pull over and let the person pass, i dont flip them off and i dont say anything unless they pull over too, otherwise i get there plate # and model car as they pass me. when we are on our bikes a cager can kill us with a flick of there wrist. its something i never really thought about untill i came across a person who was actually crazy enough to try it.

Get their info and report as a hit and run. Your back DOES hurt, right? Best to get over to the side of the road and call the Law up and make sure you are in a position to describe the accident to the Law (i.e., not jumping up and down but acting hurt). I don't think it matters whether or not there is damage to the vehicle. When I was hit in my cage twice from behind, I got my therapy paid for by the ins. co. But in both cases I got their license and insurance info. In this case, I think they have to be caught and usually police departments take this fairly seriously. Unless it was a cop that hit you

the rmv in mass will lookup registrations... there used to be (circa 1982) a whole office on the fourth or fifth floor at the headquarters near North Station, they'd even let you guess, 3 chances. the insurance companys used it, you could too. i suppose by this time it's available online but maybe not to the public, don't know?

I've had a few tailgaters at street speeds and I'll flash my tail lights to get them to back off. If they don't, I make sure I get some distance between me and the guy in front of my position and meet eyes w/ them for a second.

Last night I had a SUV driver skid to a stop behind me. I was still in first gear at the light w/ a car in front of me, and I just power walked the bike to the side before they made contact. There was still room behind me. It wasn't intentional, she just wasn't paying attention. I signalled to the right, pulled over and pulled in behind her SUV. Took a mental note of the plate in case she decided to do anything else that was brainless.

A month or so a go, I was coming home from work down Trapello Road in Waltham, and a truck veered into my lane, on-coming, both of us going about 40 mph. Scared the shit out of me. I saw their faces, they were f*cking laughing! I pushed to the left to move to the right, really quickly. I wanted to turn around and follow to report the plate, but there was too much traffic and I wanted to get home.

I rely on the speed of the bike and it's ability to evade situations before they happen. I read traffic well, that's why I don't have a legitmate* accident on my record after 10 years of driving/riding.

id say thats just about the stupidest thing ive ever heard, with the amount of people who carry guns/knives. it is fun to do things like that or say you do things like that, but when it comes down to it your life should be worth more than a cheap thrill. when i had my run in with the crazy suv driver i got home, turned on the news and heard about the 17 year old kid and his mom who got shot. its not worth it. want to be a hero, than donate blood to the red cross.
