Is the only easy way to do this through base camp (I have a mac)? The map seems really hard to use and navigate through.
Can you upload a file or list made on google maps or anything like that?
Thanks...

Others use Google Earth and a conversion utility, etc etc.
I use a cheap netbook PC to manage routes, pictures etc when travelling, and that can run MapSource. YMMV.

I haven't had any luck with gammon or map source. I now have Mac and tried basecamp. If I remember correctly the last time I planned a route I used google maps.
Not sure what the trouble is you guys are having with BaseCamp. In my experience, recent versions of it work great. Planning out the route itself is very similar to Google Maps, but it can also handle a lot of other useful info that Google Maps won't (such as letting you bundle additional waypoints for nearby campgrounds or whatever).
You can also, of course, do the basic route planning in Google Maps, use GmaptoGPX to export it, then import that GPX into BaseCamp to tweak/finalize the route and add other info.
