First we figure out how many motorcyclists are/were out on a road during a lightning storm in the last year.

Then we figure out the average number of times lightning will strike and damage a highway (i.e. leave a 4-inch deep hole) in the last year.

Then figure out how many times a motorcyclist has been injured by said damaged highway.

Then we do something about the fact that my head is spinning trying to think of all that... and just say he was a very unlucky guy and it's safe to say that it probably won't happen to anyone on this board.

Hell, if I was to die from a freak bolt of lightning while riding my motorcycle, I'd want it captured on film. That shit would be my desktop wallpaper in the afterlife.

You know this posts timing is impeccable. Coming home from Motorcyle last tuesday night all I keep thinking about was the fact that I was standing next to a large metal sphere in a electrical storm. and then riding home in it with a full tank of gas. I even remember saying to myslef what the odds of being struck by lighting on a bike! Go freaking figure it happened!!!

um, this is the second time i have heard of this happening in a year. last year someone on a bmw was roasted alive when his gas tank was struck while riding. i could not believe the bad luck at the time, but here it is again. a cage is about the safest place to be in a lightning strike, because it IS a cage and the lightning is not able to penetrate.

I rode through a horrible lightning/rain storm yesterday afternoon. I was out in the middle of no where so had no choice but to keep going. Not a good time though.

At some points the wind was at such a constant gust it felt like I was on a constant corner.

woudlnt you have to have your feet in the ground to get zapped?.. This article says the guy was in rush hour so I would assume his feet were on the ground and that's how he got his charge. The rubber tires would have saved him....

man it's freaking pouring out right now.. blah!! Can't wait to drive to Long Island in a down pour.

dude isnt the bike grounded to itself and if you are wet and holding the tank and metal frame that would make you grounded to it

Last year I got stuck in the rain, strong winds, thunderstorm, lightning and hail on my way home. You know...the kind of heavy rain that will soak you wet in less than 5 seconds...hail big enough to hurt when it hits you on your legs and you're wearing jeans, and lightning so close to you that you almost shit your pants and think it's gonna strike and kill you. About a quarter mile before arriving home, a longue branche with a diameter of about 3 inches fell on the street right in front of me and I had nowhere to go but ride over it. Had it been a big one I would probably have crashed. Call me a pussy, but I rode the bike in the garage, crying and shaking like a leaf. I don't want to get caught in that kind of conditions while on my bike EVER again.
