Street? Track? Both?
I’m off my game, another bike I didn’t know existed. 76* hp, same as a katana 600, from 400cc? Impressive
Your park avenue leads to..
Set aside cash for a remap. It's an absolute requirement for them. Should be great fun. I loved my gsxr 400, I would say it was almost as fast as a 600.
70hp at 69,000 rippems!

Assuming you already watched these...
holy shit! With just a flash????? what's the story?
The rumors are that Kawasaki priced it high and neutered it to keep it from hurting the sales of other bikes in it's line that are it's legacy models ie. The 400 twin and 600 bikes. It's in its own little corner of the market as is but it has the ability to move into others if it's sells too well which could hurt Kawasaki's business model here. Overseas it's meant to be better selling since there isn't a market at all for bigger cc bikes but here it's just fill a niche.
To meet noise restrictions, you only actually get full throttle for a VERY short window, in what we'd consider the midrange of RPMs for that motor, and HEAVILY restricts it elsewhere. This allows Kawi to move where peak power occurs at, which determines at what RPM the noise test is run at. The flash allows full throttle across the board.
Last year, it would have been an UL bike, and in SB trim I think it'd have done well. 2023 rules have it in LW in both NEMRR and CCS, and I don't think it's competitive there in SS trim, SB it'll need to be a full on get into the motor build to have a chance. WERA has it in D and I think it'll do well as modern twins are limited to 600cc, so no RS660 spoiler to fight against.
I didn't bother to consume the latest-and-greatest numbers ahead of the purchase, but I was definitely aware that:
a) the US bike, in particular, comes heavily nerf'd from the factory
b) a whole bunch of additional power could be unlocked (at the expense of the factory warranty) with software alone
I'm going to register it for the street at first, if only to have more opportunities to ride it / break in the motor before considering remap/parts options.
It would be absurd to own this bike and *never* get it to a track day, but I thought the same thing about the SM wheelset for the 701 and have enjoyed the hell out of that with (so far) zero track days logged.
Even without any additional power unlocked, the absurd RPM range and the up/down quickshifter will probably offer a bunch of smiles per gallon. "Less power than the 636 for about the same money" doesn't really bother me at this point in my life. I want to twist that grip as hard as I want, admire das blinkenlichten in the TFT dash, listen to it sing soprano at a reasonable volume through the stock exhaust, etc. It really is like a micro ZX-10 that one can ride with his d*ck out without immediately suffering legal/medical consequences.

Apparently dealers got notified of MY2024 details yesterday, and Kawasaki is going to sell this bike again next year. The more the merrier, I say.
I hope they sell so many of these that racing orgs make a 400 GP class that assumes remap but no worked motor internals.

Welcome to my world of pain with my 90’s 400s…
Make a ULSB/GP class for these with SS motors, 90’s 400s and Hawk 650’s with SBK / overbore builds, and hell, may as well even let 125/moto3 bikes in as they are well matched to race with and let’s goooo.

I mean, ULGP exists?![]()
I had a deposit on one and it came in. I put a dealer plate on it and took it for a very short ride. The bike was stock and the ECU flash to reach the power of the asian market ECU is a must. The handling of the bike is great and stock suspension is not bargain basement crap. Too many bikes in the garage, too little time spent at track days, too little desirability of the bike in my mind to make the purchase. I've always wanted a 400 4 cylinder screamer. The hype was more than the hit for me. I think they should have spiced up the color choice for the US market and not made it look so much like the ZX6R.
