I read somewhere that they mistakenly used a part in some engines that looks exactly like the part that's supposed to go in, but that's not up to spec in some other way (presumably metallurgy or something). So they have to check all previously-assembled engines to make sure the wrong part wasn't used.

Wow, that's gotta cost Kawi a lot, because then they couldn't sell customers bikes as new! If it was an engine issue I'd think they'd do a recall like Aprillia did. I'm guessing it's a safety issue that can't be remedied at the local dealer.
