I submitted a Rules Proposal Request to the USCRA to allow "LRRS P-89 Outlaw Bikes" (Non-conforming/USD Forks/Over displacement Period IV bikes) to race in their Period IV-Formula Open Class. (USCRA Period IV is a Pre-89 vintage class). As a return gesture, it would be awesome to open the LRRS Amateur P-89 Class to USCRA PIV-F3, F2 and F1 Classes. This would allow the vintage racers a chance to race LRRS (like in May when the USCRA event is the following Monday). Further, it would increase the LRRS Amateur P-89 grid. In the past two years there have been only TWO racers in this class.
Thank you for all you and the LRRS Crew do for us....
MikeBike - I'm honestly not up on the p-89 thing, so I think that request is best forwarded to Steve Aspland. I can tell you that if P-89 has only had 2 entries on average that it does not make financial sense to run it, and I'll guarantee that it's got it's head on the chopping block unless there are changes coming next year. You need to get on the pitch to save it, and maybe this is the way...I just am not familiar with the USCRA classes you refer to and as such cannot give you information with any type of accuracy.
Can we revisit the EJECT system as a rule? I had thought that this was a CCS thing but if it is strictly LRRS I would like to know why we are the only ones using it. Some of the new helmets out there have cheekpads which are designed to be removed by EMTs while the helmet is still worn. With those out, the helmet just comes right off which makes the EJECT system unnecessary.

I also support revisiting the EJECT rule.
I understand SOME helmets have the removable but what's wrong with the EJECT system?

I'm with Mike on this one. I was going to include it in my other post, but figured discretion was the better part of valor given how out spoken I was against it when it was imposed on us. I truly believe the EJECT system is not needed and just adds an unnecessary expense to an already expensive sport. If people are worried about alienating the companies that provides the bulk of these devices for LRRS riders, then maybe you can mention the device it in the rule book, but leave it to the discretion of each individual rider whether to use it. If someone perceives a benefit from the "system," then let it be their choice.
Oh, and can we please stop the requirement of having to bring your belly pans through tech.

After loosing sleep thinking the P-89 Class might get chopped, I came up with a simple solution that would greatly increase the P-89 field using current LRRS Bike/Rider Classifications as follows:
1.P-89 ULSB & P-89 LWSB Classes: Open the P-89 Class to a modified version of the current ULSB and LWSB Classes running both bike displacement categories.
2. P-89 to 1994 Bikes: Allow a five year age adjustment to the P-89 Class to 1994 models. This would allow some of the old school sport bikes to compete such as Ninja 600R, FZR 400/600, and Ducati 900/750 Super Sport 2V bikes. Realistically, competitive P-89 bike builds cost racers $5 to $8K as many of the parts are unobtainium. This modification will allow older, less expensive sport bikes to compete.
3. P-89 Expert/Amateur/Novice: This modification will greatly increase the P-89 grids as there are numerous Novice racers already racing older Hawk's, Ducati's and FZ's that hope to someday drop their lap times into the Amateur threshold but are held back by racing 25 year old bikes.
All this can be accomplished by slightly modifying the current LRRS Rule Book, the vintage grids will grow, spectators love the old school bikes and this would create a great entry lever race class. Besides, I believe it is wiser to fix a problem than to kill it....

Just for clarification, under the 'like model' rule used by both CCS and the USCRA, all FZR 400/600s are already P89 age legal, with their final forms having hit the market in 1988. Only thing blocking 600s or many of the 400 builds are the displacement limits of the existing LRRS P89 class.
This is a good point. When outsiders (like myself) have went up there to check out the races it's always impossible to figure out what is going on at that moment and what to look forward to as the day progresses. I ended up meeting my friends who were racing and then proceeded to sit around and play with my phone. Lol. It's just not really geared towards the spectator crowd. Maybe that's how you racers like it. Hehe

Then it falls on us as racers to educate the spectators. My parents and brother have gone up several times and they love it. Maybe it's because they get to see someone they know do something "cool." Or it's because I told them ahead of time, "go here, and here and here for the best viewing." Not once have they been disappointed.

I can understand wanting the eject system, but as people have stated a lot of helmets now are being deisgned with removal and injury prevention in mind. Maybe have it be something to the effect of if your helmet has a method where the cheek pads can be removed un an emergency then no secondary eject system is needed to be installed.
Also have the emt's ever used the eject system?

When there is only one class on track... spectating is pretty simple. It gets tough when there are Ex and Am's... and really tough when there are 2 classes with EX and AM's.
Speakers wherever there are bleachers should be step one. Then, encourage Bruce to "pre explain" each race - when appropriate, mentioning how there are both EX in first wave with the white plates, then the AM in the second wave with YELLOW plates, etc. Or even explaining how the first waves are two different classes of bikes and are not really racing against eachother, etc.
If you stand in the bleachers and watch sometimes, you hear all sorts of mis information among the spectators.
CCS has solved the confusion problem by not mixing classes.
Of course we can't do that because we are the only place (I think) that has P-89, motard and Novices.
That seems pretty reasonable. Given how tight/technical Loudon is, the extra HP of anything over a 600 isn't really an advantage (ask me how I know :-)
Looking at the results of the unlimited classes (most top finishers are on 600's in amateur and expert) and the lap records for MW vs Unlimited classes makes that pretty clear.
I don't have a dog in the F40 fight - I didn't even realize that unlimited bikes are excluded, and it would be a bummer if I was over 40 and couldn't race the class because I have a 1200cc V-twin (or a 1,000cc I4, etc., etc.)
