I believe the answer lies in what makes the rider the most comfortable on the bike.

At my (slow) pace, I find that the ability to relax and be comfortable far outweighs any setup changes I've made (barring tires, because they had a large impact on my mental comfort, too)

    Those are great pics

I saw some mention of slipper clutches earlier in the thread. They are nice. When I got the 07 gixxer 1k I couldn't tell a difference, until it dawned on me... get it up to 50-60 in 3rd or so, drop it into first, let the engine come to idle speed and let the clutch lever go. That should lock the rear wheel, I-4 or a twin. Instead the revs came up and it was smooth as can be.

Another thing about slipper clutches...they're mechanical, they can fail. The last place you want it to fail is when you're screaming into a turn, street or track. Always rev-match in those cases unless you don't mind the possible insta-high side.

    my $0.02 on slipper clutches

With an I-4 you will not know you've made a mistake until you wake up.

A V-twin has a nice low volume moan, kind of like Tammy did in HS; whereas the I-4 screams death directly into your helmet.

    I prefer the inlines.

I was satisfied that my SV was loud enough when Denno came to me at VIR and said, "Dude, that thing's so loud I can hear and feel you coming up behind me on the track.".

    That's what you think.

You paid extra for Noel to get a haircut thereby removing any evidence of nutting.

He just can't help himself, Pete.

Yeah, I hear those dump trucks on the track all the time; usually Todd Babcock or Eric.

hmm... I lied... I was off a tooth at either end, I'm at 15/46.

So you're two teeth up from stock in the rear... Are you noticing any of the ill effects that others have mentioned? Like having to be late on the gas out of 3? Or spinning up the rear in 4?

And, is that how the bike was set up when you got it, or did you make that gearing change after riding it for a while and then making a decision?

    Re: I-4 vs. V-twin

That's how I got it & that's how it's stayin for now. Seems to work well for me.

Though I did spin it up going up the hill in 4 once, but that was cuz the rear tire was reaching the end of it's racing lifespan.

Keep in mind, I'm also not geared to top out by turn 1 by any means.

I wanna say I'm shifting into 6th right about the start/finish line, but honestly I can't remember if that's on the SV or the EX
