I thought CEO was a Am still. How was it even an Option? I'm confused.

    I'll save everyone the trouble...

Vanson Rider of the year award. This award is presented by Vanson Leathers
to the first year rider that accumulates the most number of points, starting as a
Novice and advancing when the minimum requirements are met (no cherry
picking). Rider character and deportment are also taken into consideration.

    The paragraph right before that:

An amateur rider may elect to retain his amateur standing until the end of the
calendar year, however, the rider may lose any eligibility for the rider of the
year award and possibly any contingency awards. New riders, to be eligible for
the rider of the year award, must request advancement when the minimum
    requirements are met.

Chris, that sucks dude. I was pullin for ya. I'll buy ya a pitcher on Wednesday.

Yeah. Chris didn't have the min requirements so he didn't advance. Its all acedemic anyway, frankie got a ton of points.

    The paragraph right before that:
Exactly, there is no stipulation about bumping to expert, I purposefully did not bump because I wanted to spend a little more time as an AM in 2010 to make sure I was ready (basically I am about ready on the motard but not quite on the r6, also my tard blew up so I raced dennos one weekend). If that was a rule, then I would have strategized differently. If expert is a requirement, the rulebook needs to be fixed and clarified for sure. Also the definition of first year rider needs to be clarified.

To clarify, the second paragraph portion about not bumping and losing eligibility pertains to someone who has met criteria to bump and chooses not to do so until the next season (i.e. Tim Barber 2009). I did not meet the criteria (needed one more race to be eligible) for bumping so that doesn't apply to me. So both those paragraphs are what I based my plans off of for 2009.

I was under the impression that Frankie was not eligible since he did his rookie race in 2008. He is fast and he deserves the award but I didn't think he was eligible for it since he was not a "first year rider" I thought.

My disappointment stems from the fact that according to the rulebook and the points standings of the several other people who I knew were going for it I thought I was good to go. I had a spreadsheet of finishes and I had the couple other guys beat by around 150 points so I calmed it down at the end of the season a bit. Since frankie didn't do a rookie race in 09 he wasn't on my sheet, I saw all the points he was getting and weird races he was running (did MWSS on his tard lol) but didn't think he was eligible.

Regardless, congrats to Frankie, he had a great year and went from doing 30's on his tard to doing 21's on his tard and 19's on his SV. Fast guy and deserves the award for sure.

Plus ... its an award given by a sponsor, not an official LRRS award, as far as I know

I'm actually a little sour grapes...I was hoping to take home my 6th ROTY award but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I actually plugged Frankie into my spreadsheet but thought I had him beat in points...Owell... Congrats to Frankie...I remember dicing it up with him throughout the season, he's a hell of a rider!

U purposely didn't bump, or you were ineligible? I didn't know rookie of the year award didn't require expert plates, but maybe cutting back on races ended up backfiring, as I think that's a nice achievement to add to your resume (in vanson's eyes??).

I think any season where there's a few riders eligible, makes it great for the candidates, and LRRS - to be able to produce great racers in such short time (16 days).

    Congrats for being a candidate

He didn't have to bump (not eligible for automatic bump) but he could have by emailing don. He chose not to email don to bump so as to maximise time in amateur for roty points.

That's mostly it degs, basically I went into weekend 8 with one less race than was necessary for bumping, on purpose. if I wanted to be ex I would have just done one more race. At that point I wouldn't have quite had the index probably (not sure), but I could have emailed don. I mean hey, he let DOC become an EX, so that would have worked especially based on my motard results

I agree competition is good and regardless I raced motorcycles and hung out with my friends, it was a blast and I intend to continue doing it for many years to come.

I think Chris did the right thing... Asking to bump before you meet the written requirements (index or race count) really shouldn't be allowed or encouraged unless the person is running times better than a handful of the next class.

As it is, 26 people had 100 different suggestions for me, bumping was going to make me faster blah blah... I ran an extra amateur weekend, then bumped... I think bumping in the 18's was a huge waste. All I got to see was the door closing in t1 and following fast guys, that I didn't have enough to get around them... The difference in 17's and 18's and 15's for me, was getting a good start, and keeping with the fast carrots... In hindsite, I wouldn't have bumped, and would have enjoyed competing and battling with the front of the amateurs (and contingency doesn't hurt either).

We'll see what 2010 brings! I hope more than any lap times, all the LRRS guys all have a safe season... That's more important than any club trophy's & records.

Re: Last Day as reigning ROTY...

Rules pertaining to the Vanson ROTY appear the same now as they did back in 2005 when I last looked at it. Reading the rulebook, to me, seems to say you have to go from Nov->Am->Ex to be eligible and bump ASAP as to eliminate the "stay in Am and maximize points" tactic.

Back when I was a Novice and was thinking about going for the ROTY I was confused on how it was awarded. I thought it was completely subjective, so I asked multiple officials for clarification. Ended that idea good advice on rulebooks anyway. I think at half the AMA races I was at this yea I had to ask some official on clarification on a rule or procedure. (and tht was just me, one guy on a 20 person team, and we all asked the officials questions)

either way who gives a fuck . it doesn't really mean much on your resume anyway if you can't back it up with good expert results or you quit racing 2 years later or 10 other crazy scenerios. (or maybe I'm just bitter I didn't win it racing my 18 year old Hawk sniffsniff)

You had a fun first year and did good. Woooord.

Me too but if it meant getting that suit which I both need and can't really afford then I woulda done it LOL... I could have raced motard at that level I think and just practiced on the R6 until I was ready.

I looked at a previous rulebook where it specifically said expert, but nowhere in this years rulebook did it state or imply that expert was a requirement at all. All it says is that if you are eligible for any bump you have to do it. I would say a rewrite of that section for clarification as to eligibility and first year rider definition and other details is in order.

Anyways, doesn't matter now, back to the winter doldrums... I know with my luck I'll probably do great first weekend and end up bumping, oh the irony lol
