    Dunlop Slick Questions

I picked up two rear and a front takeoff during the last race weekend. I figured I'd mount them on a spare set of rims and try them in practice on Friday to gauge the difference in profile and how it will affect the suspension. I'm trying to figure out the compounds on the various tires to see what I have. The markings on the tires appear to be different than Dunlops site? Thoughts?

    The tires I have:
    165/55/17 KR108 (3806)
    165/55/17 KR108 (4503)
    125/55/17 KR106 (4806)

I suspect that the 4806 and the 3806 are the "super soft" models but would like to confirm. I'm also trying to find circumference numbers so I can compare them to the Pirelli Diablo's and Dragon's that I've been running.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
    Fitz

    Re: Dunlop Slick Questions

Given the "0x" nature of the last two digits of each, I suspect the numbers you've posted (3806, 4503 and 4806) are the build dates (e.g., 38th week of 2006). There should be another three or four digit number stamped on each tire.

The below link is to a Dunlop sidewall picture. The date code is always in the oval box (here it is 0209 i.e, 2nd week of 2009) the compound code is usually stamped in a rectangular box (here it is 2783 i.e, this is a Daytona spec tire [harder compound on the left side for Daytona]):

Plus, I don't see any 125/55/17 made in '07, '08 or '09. I'd have to find and pull my '04-'06 Dunlop sheets to confirm.

    .
    I am not sure if anything changed from 2006 to 2007, but . . . .

    For 2007, this was the 165/55R-17 KR108:
    ................DIMENSIONS
    ..MAX WIDTH........MAX DIAMETER
    (INCHES) (MM)........(INCHES) (MM)
    6.38........167...........24.69......628

    .
    For 2007, this was the 125/80R-17 KR106:
    ................DIMENSIONS
    ..MAX WIDTH........MAX DIAMETER
    (INCHES) (MM)........(INCHES) (MM)
    4.58........116...........23.95......606

    .
Hope this helps. I'll look for the '04-'06 Dunlop sheets when I get home this evening to confirm.

    Re: Dunlop Slick Questions

For the Diameters on the Pirellis...

    120 is : 600mm center, 497mm shoulder

The rear I don't have 160 info in front of me... but there's more going on than just diameter changes, for instance on the 180 rear tire: Diablo has a center diameter of 641mm vs. 643mm for the Dragon. Shoulder diameters differ as well: Diablo 527mm vs 529mm on the Dragon. Overall width: Diablo 184mm vs 179mm on the Dragon.

So as you can see there are differences just between the Diablos and Dragons you are running already.

What I can tell you is, you're looking at minimal changes on your ride height between the Pirellis and the Dunslops. I'll see if I can get the info on the 160 tire.
