Glove rec (or, do I have to spend $150 to get good gloves)?

Like the title says, I'm shopping for gloves. I've been happy with my MotoGP gloves, but they are in less-than-ideal shape after lowsiding twice at the July TTD events. I am far less happy with my Teknic gloves, both pairs of which have failing seams and which have not been crashed in. At this point, I'm strictly a street/trackday rider (barring unforseen budget changes, I don't expect to be able to afford racing this year or next).

So, the question: do I need to spend $100 or $150 (or more) to get decent gloves? Airflow and durability are important, and protection in a crash is obviously the most critical goal. Motorcycle-closeouts has an AXO race glove for about $80 shipped, which is the cheapest I've seen for anything that looks like a quality, full-gauntlet glove; however, they also have a lousy return policy (10% restocking fee w/$10 minimum if you want a refund) and don't take Amex. Other suggestions or pointers appreciated.

Sort of depends if you want to get multiple crashes out of them. The stiching on my MotoGP nitrous gloves blew open after 1 crash but my hands were fine.

It seems like they are a bit more than what you'd like to see, but you are welcome to try them out next week at the TTD's for a session or two.

I have had many gloves over many years. No need to spend mad $ to get good protection.
BUT...
once I did spend the cash and got a pair of Held's.. well I wont go back to tother brands as primary gloves, In this case you do get what you pay for. Great fit, good protection and just plain awesome comfort. For short rides and track events thats probably not a major concern but for 200+ mile long trips well then it jumps up on the importance scale ... for me anywya

Small, for the most part.

Teknic's small fits me just about dead-on; my Joe Rocket rain gloves are a small and a tad short in the fingers, while my Axo waterproof/insulated gloves are a medium...and a rather snug fit. The MotoGPs I have are a small, I think, and the fit is good.

Thanks for all the recommendations...if the twowheelsteals GP Techs were in a small, I'd be jumping all over that. I have some shopping to do tomorrow.

Its a good idea to try on the gloves and know your size ahead of time.
I had two sets of Alpinestar in size Large, but got a pair of nice SP's in the same size large that didn't fit. I needed an XL. Couldn't return them.
I've worn large and extra large depending on the make and model.
It can be an expensive so know your size if possible.

Given the return policy at New Enough, I decided that $110 for a pair of 2008 GP Plus's was a decent bet (that, and I was already ordering another EXO-700 from them now that the Crackheads are at $109). Won't have 'em for Monday, unfortunately, but c'est la vie.

I have a pair of these and the seam on the pinky failed when I low-sided in 6 at NHMS after sliding about 100 feet. The rest of the glove did VERY well.

Id say spend the cash. Ive had two sets of Helds. Both have survived hards crashes at the track. One set has been through 3. One I was taken out at about 120mph and slide on the glove. They came through perfectly and Im still using them. Spend the money and have a nice set of gloves for many years.

I have a set of Icon Merc Gauntlets, that I've been riding in since I started riding, 3 years now. They've seen rain and never bled, not once. They've been down with me once though not on the street, went off road. I also don't race these have been strictly street gloves, so take that for what you will. They've held up great, still feel great, just starting to show some wear. The rubber piping that runs around the edge of the cuff is worn thru from rubbing against the velcro wrist strap, but that doesn't affect anything just looks gross lol. Likewise starting to get some finger tip wear but again just looks dirty no reall damage. And they were like 80 bucks from newenough when i bought them.
