How old are you guys out there racing?
I started riding dirt back when I was a kid, always wanted to race never any money. Rode street as a teenager and young adult...always wanted to race never any money. Took a break from riding to raise a family now I am back into it. I've done a few track days and have the addiction now. I am a ways away from being ready to ride in a competitive enviroment but I have been thinking about it. I am just wondering how old some of the older guys are out there racing.
Thanks,
Craig
Get out there.

This sport is great for any age....there are many different bike clasees to run and there are races catered to both over 40 and even over 50.
Half the racers seem to get involved in their younger 20's and then there are others like yourself that start racing after they get their families and houses all straightened out.
Its a sport that kinda calls to you, if you have the ability to do it then you probably will.
I'm 31 now and I'm sure I'll be one of the old veterans in 20 years.

I am a 55 year old novice. I know many way older and way faster. Read my blog about my motoX excursion. Getting old is for yungins.

31.
Started racing cars when I was 14. Did that until my late 20's when I realized I could no longer afford to race cars competitively, have two kids, a wife and a mortgage. I had zero bike experience. Talked to a lot of people, asked a lot of questions and bought a street bike in early 2008. Rode street only for most of the season and found an SV650 at the track fully set up. Finished the prep on that and completed penguin school at the end of the year. Raced ~8 races in 2009 and had an incident at the last event of the year which has left me sidelined. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about getting back on the bike and on the track.

1st track day at 41 (hence race#241), raced 42 & 43
There are a ton of older racers... given the nature of the sport there aren't so many "younger" people than can manage the cost early in life and a career, while many older riders have already established their financial situation and make enough money to afford it.
Formula 40 is one of the most exciting races to watch.

Come on out and play!

I've only done track days, and never in the most advanced group, but it always impresses me and gives me hope for the future that it seems most of the fastest guys are well older than me (im 28)! It seems that being a youngster is no pre-requisite for kicking ass at the track.
I'd say if anything, being older means there is no time to lose! Get out there! You are only as old as you act! That makes me 20, or 14 when drunk.
