All three races were faaaaaan fuckin tastic.
We had a little GP party at Steve Heider's... of the 10 guys I predicted to finish top 10, 8 of em were in there. Before the race when everyone was saying "Crashlow is gonna crash!" I said (only half jokingly) "BULLSHIT! HE'S GONNA FINISH ON THE PODIUM! THIRD PLACE!"
Well, I shoulda gone with my gut and put that in my official predictions. Instead I said he'd finish 6th. Doh!
But... awesome race.

Cal might be my favorite guy on the grid.
His ankle break was no joke. Put him in a dark place for awhile.

Didn't do too bad here....I'll take credit for calling Crutchlow right in spite of his injury recovery.
It extends all the way through practice sessions too. I watched pretty much every lap of the race weekend and Dovi had me fooled. SOB was sandbagging the entire time save one lap of Qualifying to get himself on the front row. Absolutely masterful race management.
Got around to watching the Moto 3 race last night...it's really unreal what those guys have go through where the slipstream is so critical. If you're leading the race, you legit need 3 seconds minimum to not get hauled in on the straight. The best position you can be in going into the final corner is actually 2nd (assume a decent run to the stripe, Argentina need not apply.)
Moto 2 was my favorite race. That run Luthi put on had me pumped up, I watched the last two laps on my feet. That coupled with the battle for 3rd right behind them really made for an awesome show. Can we just go to Argentina now please?

Hi Paul.

This is true, especially if the moto2 chassis can turn like an R6 or better. The downside of the 675 was that you could not turn it well when really cranked over. So you were limited to the point and shoot line when the R6 could rail. I do miss the torque of the 675 though, and the sound! But I have dropped about 3-4 seconds a lap since going to the R6.
So before I buy the online pass for MotoGP can anyone confirm it is /isn't a problem playing the video stream from different devices through Comcast?
Poor Crutchlow.
I'm somewhere between the following arguments:
-He technically broke the rules
-Punishment far outweighs the crime
-Unless its egregious, you NEVER see these penalties imposed to the popular riders/championship contenders - not saying its right, but it should be even playing field and I say side with the riders
I'm thinking slight clutch drag combined with weight transfer from feet to feet. With feet planted, clutch drag isn't enough to move the bike. If you unweighted your feet I could see it creeping forward. At least for the bikes us mortals ride.

That was a tough one for Cal, he definitely didn't gain an advantage. Well done by the old man, it was nice to see him finally put Dovi away at the end.

MM is a freak. I honestly start to believe that he purposely doesn’t win races to keep things interested. He may very likely be able to win every single race in a season. He purposely rides over the limit when he doesn’t even have to.
Rossi just makes us all smile. He really made the sport what it is today. Seeing him on the podium made me very happy.
I would love someone in race direction to compile and leak a video of every rider in the past 5 years and graph who actually got penalties.
I've watched close to every MotoGP race the past 5 years. They replay the start and zoom in every time someone gets a fault start penalty. I cannot remember a single time that they have given a penalty and I couldn't notice it with the naked eye during the replay, except this one. Plenty of times they don't give a penalty if someone moves, as long as they don't get an advantage.
Makes me think its politics. Wait, what, Cal can't beat factory Yamaha's. Cal isn't Spanish or Italian. Championship needs to be Dovi vs Marquez. We need to make a Netflix series like F1 and need to beef up the narrative. I'd like someone to prove this all wrong.
He broke the rules, and he got the penalty. I get it. Doesn't mean I agree with cops writing tickets when you go 1 mph over the speed limit.

I don't think Freddie Spencer is in on the Spanish/Italian conspiracy. They brought him in to eliminate those doubts.
But in some cases they don't penalize if the rider creeps and then stops and then goes. Cal was in constant motion before the lights went out. That is the definition of a jump start. I know it was pretty slow, and a matter of inches, but it's not really a case where you can argue that he didn't do it. He's a whiner. In his mind he is the equal of Marc, Vale, Dovi. ORLY? I think not! He is fast, but crashes WAY to often in race mode. He always has someone to blame, he can't take ANY criticism. I'm glad to see him squirm on this one.
I think he has to think like this. If he doesn't how is he going to beat these guys? A little crazy can go a long way.
Cal is good, always has been. Just as good as anyone but Marc, who I completely agree is the best rider anyone has ever seen on a motorcycle. He is special.
If you take away Marc's abilities to save the bike off his elbow, I bet he crashes more than Crutchlow. The Honda was only ever able to run the hard front tire. Marc could cope with the unforgiving front end with his riding style and elbow saves. Cal couldn't and he would crash. Every other rider on the Honda (in recent years) had mediocre results because they were afraid to crash it (you can judge if this is good or bad). Cal knows he can win, is willing to risk it, and that is why he has won in the past. Now that Honda have apparently done a lot to fix the front end issues (Marc ran the medium front at Qatar) I imagine Cal will be a serious competitor for 2nd in the championship. If something happens to Marc, I think he can win it.

Yesterday I watched "Moto 2 in 10 minutes" and I gotta say that move Baldasari put on Gardner to take the lead was a bullshit dirty move. It's one thing to block pass, that's part of racing. it's another entirely to use your position to force another rider out so wide they can't turn in properly. He knew exactly what he was doing, and did it at the part of the track when Gardner's lost drive would make it impossible to close the gap before the end of the race. It was a well calculated move, but damn it was dirty.
Also, I'm officially fully on board the 87 bandwagon.

It can be well planned and effective and still be dirty. Watch it again. Coming down the back straight he pulls out of the slip stream, along side Gardener, and makes a decently heavy move left towards Gardener before tipping in right. I was good with it until the last bit. 47:30 on the no spoiler page....and it was definitely calculated....and definitely not "defense."

I dunno, looked like Lorenzo vs Rossi 2009 Catalunya down the front straight. His bars were in front by a hefty margin so I think he has every right to use the whole track. He was incredibly smooth, no swooping, no sudden movements, and it was well telegraphed. Dirty: maybe, Unsafe: no, so I think its fair.
Also, Baldasarri had the pace over Gardner over the last few laps so I don't think it impacted the outcome.
No question about it, the Moto 2 race awesome. As much as I love those technical races, a race long dog fight is effing awesome.

Baldassarri ran a good race, and I don't think it was an unsafe move either, just dirty. The overhead replay of the pass clearly show him moving towards 87 before tipping in...sorry, that's dirty. Gardener took it well though, no complaints, he went hard at a few guys too, particularly Schrotter to regain 2nd.

Great racing so far. Heading to Austin Thursday night.
