    Shall I count the ways?

Track days - no inside passing.
Racing - inside, outside.... over, under, through... whatever works.

Track days - no passing in "flip-flop" areas.
Racing - Pass WHEN you can, WHEREVER you can.

Track days - Oops, blew a turn... oh well. People will slow down & let me come back on the track.
Racing - Oops, blew a turn... now lost 10 places... hope I don't get run over while re-entering the track.

Track days - ooh, keep your distance, don't get too close... 6 feet of space minimum!
Racing - What's that? Paint from your bike is on my fairing? What? No, you can't have it back.

Track days - "Sorry about that pass, hope I didn't startle you"
Racing - "Sorry I put you in the hospital"

Track days - 20 minutes of riding at 80-90% of your ability.
Racing - 8 laps or 15 minutes of riding at no less than about 97% of your ability.

Track days - Take a couple laps at the beginning of each session to warm up your tire, body & mind
Racing - Green flag means GO NOW, MUTHAFUKKA!!!

Track days - Oil filter wired? Check.... ok, good to go.
Racing - OK, wiring... Oil filter? Oil filler cap? radiator cap? front axle pinch bolts? rear axle nut? Caliper bolts? Radiator drain? Oil drain? ... God I hope I pass tech

etc etc etc... you get the picture

This post by no means should turn you off of racing... it's fantastic being out there... it's just that it's a whole new world compared to Track Days.

97% ????......if you wanna win it better be 100% all the time.

And when I do the rookie race it's 200% so I can get the hell out of the way

    I have to elaborate.

As a noob who just made AM status for the last race weekend.... I never really knew what people were talking about when they said Novice was dangerous. I figured they were not remembering and I just thought it was all a part of racing. (all the crazy stuff that goes on in Novice, thank god it is at slower speeds)

Going 3 wide into turn 3 in Novice is scary, you don't know if people are gonna hold their lines or panic or what.

Going 3 wide into trun 3 in AM is better. People hold their lines and you have more confidence because you know everyone has some races under their belts.

The scary thing in AM is getting the paint sucked off your bike when the Unlimited guys come flying past you on the 3rd lap!

Doc, Im just pokin a little fun, youre an all around good dude I have no problems with you whatsoever. In fact I share a lot of your opinions on squidliness, but my approach is quite different, but hey whatever.

And as for the racing, yes, novice is scary, and I cant wait to bump for a number of reasons, but you will learn REAL quick who to give a WIIIDE berth to when passing. I have a list of bikes that I look for, so as long as you're aware, its not the worst thing in the world. But God I hope I bump soon

    Re: novice on 1000cc?

I agree with most of the posts above. Racing in NV is pretty wild in the big bike classes. The EX'ers, SV'ers and 2-smoke guys seem to have their heads on straight for the most part even in novice. When you get into AM, it's a whole different ballgame. Still fun, but you have to work a little harder to keep up at the top. I know Prod Twins isn't a "real" class, but going from the wicked easy 1st places in NV to the hard fought 1st and 2nds in AM was a big big change. The racing was tighter (i've bumped a 125 going out of 2 more than once, only time I'm glad the EX is as heavy as it is) but the people can race closer without issue (or as many issues).

For the money you would spend racing that liter bike three weekends on tires alone, you could BUY an EX racebike and enough tires to last you 4 races a weekend for the whole season. That and little/lighter bikes are just so much fun. There is a reason why the lightweights are the happiest people at the track!

They can, The rookie race is not a race. It is 3 laps around the track that you must complete to get your license.

Absolute bone heads are the ones who bin it during the rookie race.
