I'm not really shocked, he pretty much will be riding one next year since the Ducati is using an FTR frame (Moto2 frame maker) at least thus far in testing. So this is all kind of awkward. Honda and Yamaha still have full-factory bikes. Ducati's a factory CRT-style effort (doesn't that break the rules?), and Aprilia, BMW and others are linked to powering CRT bikes.
If they simply modified the CRT rules to allow factory support (perhaps for engines only?) would that really be a bad thing? I would not support a single engine rule, but the factories can have the option... build a prototype to these rules, or build engines for these rules, no reason they couldn't do both?
I'm really torn on the CRT thing, but with some tweaks... what'd be the downside? Hell they should leave the door open for private engines, even 2-strokes if someone desired. Nothing will stop Honda from making the RC213, and continuing that work if they want, so why not let others have a bit more flexibility and concessions to mount a proper challenge to the top teams?
