I glad my bike has good brakes. That was scary shit right there. Im also a little happy I botched the launch. I would have been in the middle of that one instead of weaving through it.

Not to be rude, but did you guys like seriously target fixate? Seems like theres a lot of room to still make the turn. But maybe under the conditions its safer to run it wide.

There wasnt time or room to make a quick turn in. I was on the outside in 1a a bike came across, then Tim, then a few bike parts, then Palm and then everyone else that was up right. All I had time for was to grab more brake and pick a spot to shoot through all stuff coming across the track.

I think we more or less let it un fold and it happend way before that pic was snapped. Also we were pretty close in 1...so I know I wasn't target fixated but more or less didn't want to get mixed up in the mess and rode away fine...the guy went down Chris had no chance of missing him and they slid right across the race path so we all had to adjust to no make it a big pile up...

seriously richie, we were all at speed. my knee was on the ground passing him when he washed out. he slid right into the line I was setting for everyone behind me that I had boxed out (my move pushed everybody out because i cut them off and put them off line intentionally).

They did a fabulous job with poor line of sight not running him over again and not hitting me as well.

    Here's the entire sequence

Most of these are out of focus but still better than nothing I guess.

    Cheers!

Gotcha, figured it happened quick, picture just looks a bit funny.

And for the record that wasnt meant to be any sort of accusation or anything. I wasnt there this weekend, and Ive been in situations like that before, so I def cant say one way or another.

If I was one of the 3 guys in the second pic above I would review the full series provided in post 12 as a learning tool. What seemed to happen on track in real time is not what I see in those photos. If all 3 stayed on line it would not have been as close a call for them.

Wish I could have this kind of photo evidence to review after a close call on the street and see if what I thought happened was indeed fact.

you don't seem to understand how what you're saying was damn near impossible. first of all, it looks a lot slower in pictures. keep in mind a high speed camera is taking the photos.

second, remember all those guys were on a different line than they normally would have been.

last, they had very limited visibility of what was happening because I was in the way. when they broke from their path it was the right thing to do at that time. once they realized what was going on the all BRAKED as hard as they could. you can't turn and brake (under that much pressure) at the same time.

it's easy to make judgment from a chair, but you weren't there and you don't realize those guys did one hell of a job not piling onto us.

Definately at speed and no arm chair quarterbacks need comment.

Mental note for me, "Ya go where you look"

If I was anyone who wasn't there or directly involved, I'd have no comment to post up as to what others should or should not learn or could have/ would have done based on some pictures.

I'm going to have to disagree with you guys. I think it's useful to have other experienced racers join in a discussion of alternative scenarios to what did happen and think about the pros and cons of having reacted differently.

Of course, such a discussion should be in done in a tone that respects the fact that the people involved did the best they could at the time. I'm all for learning as much as I can from other people's incidents, because I won't be racing long enough to make all the mistakes myself!

agreed. but make comments like "you should have done this or that" or "it just goes to show" are completely uneducated and miss a vital component which is you'd have to be there in real time to understand how it unfolded and the sheer lack of anytime to do anything about it. hell...I was happy i got the bike upright and had the mental clarity at that moment to punch to throttle and try to slip the clutch. I knew it meant i'd be going right for the tires but it's what had to be done or Tim would have had thousands of pounds of force crushing down on him/dragging him.

Good point, turning "you should have done this or that" to perhaps "would it have been possible to try this or that" would have gone a long way in making us think about the situation in a more positive manner.

I think Ritchie just being grouchy because he doesn't get to come play with us at Loudon. He probably just needs a hug or something.

    FUCK!
And Im not truly being grouchy on purpose. I didnt mean for it to come across that way. Yes, it was a split second decision, yes, conditions were definitely hairier than usual this weekend. Palm Bomb I think we all agree did what he could've done, and fortunatly he and the other rider were alright. Those are unavoidable situations. THAT BEING SAID, and not trying to put blame on any of the three riders after, who I consider to be friends, FROM THE PICTURES, it looks like they could've held the turn and not gone through the mess of bikes and bodies. I know them as people and racers, if they say they couldnt have made the turn, and the safest thing to do was to do what they did, I am 100% satisfied with their word.

Thus, my contradictory statements are finished, and I hope I dont come across as an armchair quarterback, just hoping to chime in with my experience so others may learn from it.

Understand you racers get pissy when anyone without numbers has something to say in the "Pit Area". Fine.

I just wanted to make sure everyone involved bothered to look at those linked photos. They seem informative.

I'll let you racers get back to complaining about paint getting in your way.
