Does anyone know where to find the schedule and classes and etc. for the short track on the classic weekend?
There is 2 classes, 19 Dirt Track Tires (no front brakes) and a 17" Motard Slick Class.
Pete @ Sideways Promotions is putting it on... he is probably your best bet for answers on the schedule portion of that race.
Atually, I hear there is going to bea vet class and a couple others as well.

Reminder on catch cans. radiator, carb, crankcase breather, gas tank. Not hard to do.
Kurlon,
there are plenty of small parking lots to do a smaller, slower track, kind of like an indoor concrete hockey rink. A track that size is a contact sport![]()
Kurlon, you'd get a footpeg to the temple ridin' that thing!![]()

Feedback? Thanks to everyone for getting the race in under stressfull conditions.
Kevin was a real trip to watch, as usual. Some of the other people
I talked to said he was just like the guy at Indy.
I had to explain to them that he was the guy at Indy!
Great show by everyone, but especially by Shane, with Durkee hot on his tail, smoke pouring off of his rear tire!

The starter was awesome, as was the racing! Everyone I watched with had a BLAST watching the dirt trackers, and the motards were fun too. I would def like to see this back at least once this year, if not more! Way more entertaining than the Legends cars IMHO.

Pavement Short Track a Success at New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Déjà vu, Karma and fate all rolled up in a Laconia flyer was sparked up Friday night June 17 for a pavement short track held inside NHMS massive infield. Backup to April 1976 opening practice day for NESTA on the paved oval at Bryar Motorsport Park, now the main sign in building for NHMS. 16 years old, a Triumph 19” front wheel, used pair of Dunlop K70 street tires, my new, used beck arnley leather jacket and my well used 1975 Montesa 125 VA. I was on top of the world. Like the commercial says, “you’ve come a long way baby.”
From coming thru the dirt track ranks as a innocent kid sliding around a paved oval covered with beach sand and drain oil to being hired to promote a new race by a multi million dollar corporation during Laconia, a lot of fun has been had on that hallowed pile of gravel. In no particular order, short track every Saturday night in the 70’s and 80’s, watching the aamrr road races before the short tracks, Johnny Bettencourt, Jerry Wood, the benefit race for me in 1987 after my accident. TZ 750’s, Noduol, VAN SHOWS, AMA nationals, fires, burned golf karts, bikes, trucks and furniture, staging and free camel banners, hangovers and Castrol r bean oil, butler and smith BMW superbikes, scars I still have from crashing in the gravel going off u haul ramps on fire, ted goddards round short, 4 free golf carts to use ALL WEEKEND to pack the round short track in, using a jet dryer to prepare a track instead of grader.
Despite the weatherman’s forecast and a late start we got the show in. After a schedule of practice to start 5:30 we practiced about 6 then started racing at 6:30. With the rain affecting rider turnout the planned 6 classes were changed to 4 races with a combined amt/expert Supermoto. The Amateur class was the first to take AMA’s Dirt Track National starter Kevin Clarks green flag. It was a father son attack on Joe Seraphin as Craig Hall took the win over Joe. Steve Hall was third, succumbing to over heated rear brakes like several others. Imagine coming into a turn and not having any rear brake? Hopefully no one is in front of you so you just go straight.
The 40+ class had a lot of talent and some with plenty of pavement experience. Former National Number 98 Roger Durkee had the field covered with his smooth style on his Wood framed Rotax over Quick Dick Mitchell who overcame brake issues to finish second. Coming out of retirement was Gregg Seraphin taking third.
The Supermoto class run under LRRS rules had some worries about excessive tire wear and is the fun factor worth it? The tire wear was little and the fun factor was so high, the riders want it added to the legend cars every race! These bikes with big sticky slicks and oversize front brakes are more finesse’ but still very exciting. Tyler Sweeny topped the Expert Supermoto over Rick Breen while Trevor Chiappisi beat Chauncey Vierra for second overall in amt. supermoto. These boys will back and guaranteed to bring their buddies.
The Open Pro short track class with no front brakes highlighted what the show was all about. These experienced riders pitched the bike sideways halfway down the straight, tires screeching across the pavement along with a haze of blue smoke pouring off the rear tire. The big thing the riders like about pavement is it’s consistency all night. It doesn’t develop holes and not subject to usual dirt track maintenance. I was outside turn 1 for the Open Pro feature and I know off the start Narbonne and Durkee were I think 4th and 3rd but everyone was jockeying for position. Coming out turn 2 the riders were all over the track, Durkee rolling out high. Asa Irish was way tight trying to drive up the inside and Jeff Swenson using the middle. I lost track of who was passing whom but, Narbonne pulled a lead out with 2 laps to go as Durkee was literally spinning his tire all the way around. Swenson was slightly behind followed by Irish and Mike Hakey. Narbonne took the traditional in your face double checker followed by a victory lap and 5th gear burnout against the pit gate to end the night in a cloud of smoke and cheering fans.
We got the show off for you fans and we know now how the little details of the track work, so we can go from here. I can’t thank my crew, the riders and their families working together to get this show in the history books. You guys and girls always help out but showing up and supporting me when we needed to, you’re the best! Thanks to the officials and crew from New Hampshire Motor Speedway for allowing us to showcase flat track racing. See you next Laconia!
