    Trailer advice

So it looks like I will be aquiring a trailer. Not that I need one, but it will be easier this way I think. Anyone have any suggestions or advice for shit they like to have in the trailer? I do have a garage at the track, but I will (next year) be sleeping in aforementioned trailer, so any sort of conviences or organizers that you guys can think of? Ive never had a trailer before, I almost feel like a real racer now.

    Re: Trailer advice

Do not, under any circumstances, go cheap and get a single axle trailer. You'll overload it more often than you'll use it properly. Get a double axle trailer with brakes. Towing an overloaded trailer without brakes is like riding a motorcycle with only rear brakes. It can be done, but it's not the greatest idea. Double axle trailers ride a whole lot more smooth too. They bounce around less, and everything in them will get shuffled.

Haha, well what I meant is that I am BUYING the trailer, I already have it lined up, I just need to pay my good friend and teammate Mr. Hammadown for it, and then it will be mine. I meant more what do you guys like to have IN it for storage, or comfort, or transport or anything

+1 if you're planning on keeping it for a while. If you just want something that will get the job done thats one thing, but if you plan on hanging onto it and using it regularly you'll be happier. I've got a Carmate 14x7 dual axle with brakes and couldn't be happier with it. If you hold out you'll find crazy deals...especially if you're ok with barn doors instead of a ramp. Mine is a 2004 that was in mint shape and I got it for $2500....2 hours after the guy put a for sale sign on it.

it also fits a queen size air mattress comfortably behind the wheel chock.....with room up front to still go in and grab stuff or change, without having to move anything around.

    Re: Trailer advice

Ive got a contact who was great for mine, he is a moto restoration guy who does it on the side from his shop. Search my threads from early this year, I got lots of good info.

Basically, decide how many bikes you want to be able to fit.

7ft wide rather than 6 makes a HUGE difference if you can tow it with the extra width ok. It really allows room fro 2 across with some wiggle room etc.

Id skip cargopro (thule) unless you are looking for a more top of the line trailer. They are aluminum for the most part which is lighter and wont rust but its expensive as hell.

To give you a ballpark, i got a 7x12 with V-nose, plywood walls, dual axel with brakes, the check floor (I think is great b/c you drip oil, spill gas etc and it cleans right off with no smells or anything), a couple of other little things and I paid about 4400 I think brand new. It was by far the best value around.

My shitty single axle trailer does just fine. Even when empty it exhibits none of the issues you mention...

I have yet to over load it with anything motorcycle-related. Two bikes, spares, roll away tool box, etc and no issues thus far.

What a piece of shit that thing is...

i put my 2 bikes, my big toolbox (easily 500+lbs), tv, and every other thing i owned in my trailer when i moved to nc. i did ~75 mph the whole way with speeds hittin 90 through the mountains, and it never did any of that.

Pick up a Coleman 12v cooler, that way it can start chilling while you drive. When you get to the track, plug it into a 12 power supply off of 110 and keep things nice and cool. I've been using one for the past couple of races and it's damn nice being able to pull out a cold drink without having to fish it up from a watery, icey mess.

    Re: Trailer advice

A friend of mine got a nice set up for his trailer. He has a plywood platform that he lower down with a mattress on it once the bikes are out of the trailer. Also has a "Rubbermaid type" of storage cabinet with shelves to put away pillows, blankets, and other stuff. One overhead cabinet with a small flat screen TV and DVD player in it. Hooks, extra clothes hangers, a cooler, a small A/C unit to go in the lower part of the door, a heater, etc. Walls have plywood, roof is insulated. Pretty neat set up.

    Re: Trailer advice

Well the trailers in my possession, first thigns first, a little paint and such.
But a real question, for those of you that live in NH and have a trailer, what do you need to do to get it registered? I might try to be a little sneaky.
