First time winding out a 65.

Jeez! Very sweet pitbike! They have some balls! I think I prefer the nutso thumpers (pitster pro types), but I was very surprised when the powerband hit and the front end stood up!

    anybody play around on these?

My progression as a kid was:
    pw50
    pw80
    kx80

What kind of 65? I had a XR 80 and threw a leg over a KX 60. Powerband!

Yeah I've played around on one. Very capable race bikes. Hit really hard on the pipe.

Re: First time winding out a 65.

a kid that races my nephew (on a stock motor ttr 125) runs a yz85... killer bikes.

I think the KX 65 is allowed to race aircooled stuff up to 150 in many classes... more up top, so if you're good with corner speed, you'd whoop on people!

I may try to score some broken wheels or hubs and lace up some 12's for it to bring to the sumo track. I'm really undecided about race plans next year, as I want to do MX with Speed Demon Rob and Trouble, so tarding a mini would be a cool supplement. If I tard a 250 or 450, it will probably be my only racing in 2012.

I have a 80's Suzuki DS80 that friggin' HUALS. Tiny two-strokes are a good time. And yes, whack the throttle open and the thing will absolutely stand straight up. I tore it down for a rebuild/custom restoration, and it currently is with my brother. New fork seals/springs/oil, top end, chain/sprockets, carb rebuild. 95% done now, just sorting out some ignition gremlins. Once completed I definitely want some motard tires on it.

cool little beast... must not be like the jr80/pw80 (air cooled 2 strokes) cause those are dogs... My bro laces wheels in his sleep if we can help.

Same bike as the JR80. They are dogs from the factory, yes, but a little carb work and a slight overbore and they turn into mean little machines. I'm sure not nearly as powerful as the newer 2-stroke moto-x minis but still a good amount of power for the size of the bike.

The short wheelbase and powerband makes a taller rider really pay attention. The bikes were the same for many years so used wheels are not a problem.

Yeah, back in 84 or 85 I was working in a shop and one of the mechanics had just finished working on a CR60. Then he came accross the front parking lot, whacked the throttle, and it was like nothing but a bog for a second or 2, then it came on the pipe, looped and he was holding the bars running behind the bike with the thing screamin.

Of course we all saw it happen.

Are you guys running the little bikes super moto in maine?
my dirt track kids usually move up a class a year, so there are some well setup minis for reasonable money.

NEMM should be running again this spring, I haven't chased Maine Indoor Karting about an indoor winter series in a couple years so I don't that's still going. So come spring there may be some bargin hunters out shopping?

I just met Phinney (sp?) at a sumo race in NY. It's a 4 hour drive for me to NY or ME, but NY has my little racer nephew... so I may do a mini series there next year and run MX. If no MX, I'll run a big sumo Bike. If LRRS comes up with a more suitable sumo track that costs less motors, I'll be there as well. If I'm going to go through a motor or two a year on a dirt bike, I'd rather just return with a MW and go for the 13's I never saw.

I would hope I can get a handful of VT dudes to grab these inexpensively to run a monthly race at my joint next year... maybe even a little buy in for cash payout at the end of the year?

It might be worth talking to Robbie at Cyclewise (if you haven't already). He's had a few pitbike parties at his place and I know at least one of the other guys there rides a pitbike. I have no idea what he rides for a bike, I've never made it over to one of his parties.

Re: First time winding out a 65.

I have a KX65 that constantly scares the crap out of me. When you get into the power on that thing it can easily flip you right over if you arent careful, in any gear. That thing is a total deathtrap :-p

I actually bought it for my kids to learn to ride dirt. I didnt know a damn thing about dirt bikes. It was a great deal and I remember thinking "65cc, how bad can it be?" and then I rode it and didnt want to let my kids on it. Nearly looped it in 3rd gear :-p
