I'm not giving a shameless plug, but just finishing the P90X3 workout series a couple months back, my core strength and balance improved dramatically. I'd recommend it for anyone getting into any type of sport. The basis seems similar to what that article is stating.
I do crossfit for training for racing. It's not cheap but it's motivating and works REALLY well.
Nothing like riding 45 minute motos on a 450 in addition to hitting the gym.
From my experiences, if you strictly want to get in shape for racing motorcycles I would put riding moto at the top, and follow that up with some aggressive mountain biking.
Carrying big muscles around won't really help your racing. Being able to operate for extended periods at an elevated heart rate without muscle fatigue will.
The original article posted is a good read and makes very good points. I think isometric exercise would hugely benefit a relatively out of shape racer and never quite thought about it prior to this article.

Isometrics help any athlete. Sports almost always involve that type of output. Weightlifting, on the otherhand, is nothing like most sports movements and could even be detrimental in many cases. Crossfit is a little better than most weight programs, but they go way too heavy IMO.

I definitely helps. I got busy a few weeks before round 2 and felt fantastic while on the bike. I'm keeping it up in the hopes that I can repeat or better my round 2 performance with better fitness.
I used to do wall sits for my legs. Simple & effective.

This is general and a bit vague, but about 2 years ago, I started to focus on my core and legs more than my arms. Of course a lady doesn't want flabby arms so I don't ignore them, but tightening up my core and legs helped immensely in getting around the bike. I am a bootcamp, circuit trainer so take that for what it is.

I've been doing weighted squats with 40 pound dumbbells. My workout lately is consisting of 40 minutes on the treadmill on weekdays, 60 minutes on the weekends. I briskly walk for 5 minutes, then hop off and work on a specific body part, leaving the treadmill running. Once I complete the set, I walk for another 5 minutes, then another set. Rinse and repeat.
It does a ton for cardio fitness and is proving to be working pretty well. The body parts I work on are:
Day 1: Biceps & shoulders (curls and overhead presses, in one motion)
Day 2: Back (3 different types of pull-downs or rows)
Day 3: Chest (push-ups w/ different hand widths)
Day 4: Triceps (kick-backs and overhead tricep presses)
Day 5: Legs (squats & step-back lunges)
Day 6: all cardio
Repeat from day 1
Oh, and I an fitting core work into my stretching post-workout.
Having my CSCS, this is about all you need to do as far as strength training. Think about the position(s) you are in and perform exercise that are specific to function. No real reason you need to bench, for example, 315lbs to be able to apply enough pressure on the inside bar to corner the bowl.
