I don't think a NV deserves that anyway. they should just get a picture of it that says "Congratulations you'll get the real thing when you bump up, keep up the good work"

That is for CCS to decide.

As it has been touted as the class for people to dip their toes into racing I don't think I'm capable of understanding what LRRS NV is for because, of the people I have come to know in the community over the years, the decision of whether someone wanted to go racing or not was made after doing a trackday or a few. That said, as far as I can tell from past topics and conversations, most of the experienced riders on this forum seem to generally prefer a person particiapte in some trackdays prior to setting foot in a racing situation.

um. no. it is not fair because in the NV class there are people required to 'race up' a class, say the ex500 racing in ultralight. so you're all fighting for your precious trophies and talking about fairness but ignoring them. I'm just pointing out the rather large hole in your argument. if what you want is fairness they should be given awards based on their times relative to the corresponding expert class. you (who won a race on competitive machinery for the class) can be awarded in the same way. and maybe it's fair for everyone... but getting on a soap-box and ignoring that case is hypocritical.

Actually, I waited one week AFTER the new rulebook was released to make the request, since under the old rules, I was not eligible due to a 10-race minimum. When the new rulebook came out, I realized I was eligible, so I made the request.

True that! What about Jake, riding on an RS125 and making 2 2nd place finishes against SVs.

Thanks for the clarification Chuck – guess I didn’t read his post closely enough. Didn’t sound right to me, but I know you were picking off some of the 1st wave in either SB or GP last month…

We were actually the 1st wave in all 3 races that I did. From what I was told, every race only ran as a single wave, even though the grid sheets had some as 2 waves. Jake nearly missed his start in LWGP, because he thought he was in wave 2.

    I completely agree.

Recognizition in a new sport/environment always make a person feel better about what they just did. This produces great comradery and you get to know who is actually under all that gear. I got to meet a lot of people in congratulating them at the awards. To this day I still have great friendships with a lot of people that I will never forget.

As an Expert is is nice to put a name to a face/face to a name for who I need to look out for. I would like to see the sport grow. If a simple recognition make them want to come back an do it again or put the fire into someone to try and get ther name recognized. I am all for it.

What does it cost to but a name on a piece of paper and for someone to announce a name. Not much. That effort alone is worth a million bucks in that persons mind. That is what we need to foster. Those Novices are our future. We need to embrace them and shower them with our EX/AM love/support.

Like life. We have to mold, support and coddle all our children from the first Min of day1 all the way thru their teenage years (A little less) into adulthood.

    Baby
    Teenager
    Adult

BTW Let me get this straignt!!!!!!! I am not calling Novices Babies.

I WANT TO HEAR AND SEE THE NOVICE WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Another example of the wrong bike in a class. If this is ULW, the SV doesn't belong there.

And to correct my earlier statement, Jake Vader ran 2 races, one LW and the other ULW and he placed 2nd in LW and 1st in ULW.

Charles, Coleman and Jake didn't get trophies either cuz "anywhere else they'd be a backmarker".

How about a built Motard that has 10-15 more HP and weighs 100# less than a stock motored Hawk. DO I get and award for being the first non motard to cross the finish line.

Maybe there shoud be strictly a Hawk GTclass. Lets see, last race weekend. 1 Expert rider, 1 AM rider, 2 NV riders. We would have all been in the top 2. All axcept of Andy who had an excursion in T8.

That is what I love about the ULSB class. There are is a whole gambet of bikes mixed together and anything can happen. I had a hell of time racing againse Ted on his Yellow EX last year. That guy can move on an EX and I was underpowered. Is it the bike or is it the rider?

Racining as I have always thought about it is 80%-90% Rider and 10%-20%-Bike.

I remember my Penguin experience. I was droping faster times that a couple of guys on R1's. Was it the man (Sorry women) or was it the machine?

so the problem is that the SV guy was riding down a class and shouldn't have been there. so the groupings are correct, just the enforcement of it wasn't there.

    Re: Trophies!

well I stand corrected, and the sv/motard riders need to man-up a bit.

logically speaking the argument is sound but clearly the riders made the difference on this day. good for them. I sincerely hope that continues to be the case. unfortunately it doesn't change the fact that certain bikes are unfairly advantaged so giving trophies can be biased in NV in ways it isn't in AM/EX. of course, life indeed isn't fair so it all ties together now doesn't it.

3 on the 929 1 on the Hawk. 1 track day a year for 4 years.

I see where you are going. The others had the same oppertunity I did. It still happens today. Those that go right into racing and those that do track days to improve their craft before they go racing. I see plenty of small LW/ULWB bikes picking on or getting held up by 1000's & 600's. If those EX500 People decided to race as a NV they would clean up ULSB. But they are just happy to do track days.

Hell, I remember Alex Dunstan beating up the MW NV when he was on the Hawk as a NV. He was running 2nd until he had some mechanical.

He was running 2nd until he had some mechanical.
completely agree, everyone chooses their own path (I went straight from 1 visit as pit-crew to penguin basic) and I actually wasn't going anywhere with it. I've heard numbers thrown around by others and never asked

Edit: I'm not sure you're allowed to mention Dunstan by name here anymore
