    Re: Trophies!

The only thing I've really learned from all this cunting is that there are 2 kinds of racers:

Those that care about getting recognized for their efforts (boohoohoo)

And those that only give a fuck about being faster than whoever's in front of them.

Im thankful to be in the second class, if you will. 8 pages of worthless babble...

So you don't give a shit about the growth of the series then, huh? Or the fact that we've had record low attendance?

Try thinking about more than just yourself and maybe you'll see that there's a much bigger picture to look at.

You really do suck, you know that, right?

Open your fucking eyes, Mike. It's not about the fucking trophies, it's about treating the novices like RACERS while still getting the rest of the job done.

Pete, even you must be able to see that there are other major contributing factors to that and trophies probably don't even make the list.

Weren't you one of the guys who said you aren't a "racer" until you are at the top of the club? Am I not the only one that was told that when they started? I was surprised to see I could win a trophy in novice, did I need one? No. Would it have changed anything if I couldn't? No.

If the new Novices want recognition maybe we can make up a Rider certificate of achievement or something.

This is just like there not being anymore Amatuer Championships... You are not a "Champion" of anything until you are in the premier class. Right?

I don't think anyone does Doc... but seriously, what is the argument for not giving them out? That there will be cherry pickers? That issue has been eliminated... how about that it's unfair? I don't see any unfairness in my races... most bikes were 600's just like mine, some newer models of the same bike probably w/exhausts and stuff that my bike doesn't even have. Or maybe the anti-trophiests feel like it will go to our head and make us bad racers because we falsely think we achieved something huge? I don't think so... I know that when I tell people that I won my first race, I make sure to explain that it was just novice and that many guys are doing faster times etc.... Trust me, the novice winners know they didn't conquer the world, they just want something to show for their efforts and a memory for their 1st race win.
Motivation is the issue here... motivation to progress to am, and from am to ex... and most psychologists know that the key to motivation is reward for performance, and that people will repeat behaviors that are recognized and rewarded. I'm just saying that giving novice winners trophies has a small benefit to the club whereas not giving trophies really doesn't have a reasonable basis. I personally could care less... I'll keep racing even if they throw dog shit at me and make me pay money after I win!

Considering the trophy thing just started this year, yeah, no shit that's not the reason. Again, people are missing my point which is that the track is doing all this stuff to boost attendance, yet they cut novice awards... why? It makes no sense.

Now you're just grasping at straws and pulling shit out of your ass. I've NEVER said that you're not a real racer until you're an expert... a least not while just fucking around. NEVER.

Regarding Amateur championships, while there are some paralleling themes, that's really a completely separate topic with a completely different set of circumstances.

I offered Post-Its and Barry was the only taker so far.

What I'm not grasping the concept of is how the reward of a race license isn't enough of an acheivement to want to progress to a level where some sort of material recognition will always exist....that being AM and moreso EX.

In other words, "Congrats, Novice, here's your competition license. Your next award will come during your first AM win. Until then please continue to hone your racing skills."

The LRRS NV will be a perpetual gray area since the NV plates aren't good anywhere but LRRS. That alone, in my mind, sends the message that it is not a class that is really requiring trophies to begin with since the plates aren't honored elsewhere in CCS other than LRRS. Again, I felt this way even during my time in Novice.

Not sure whether you were joking here, but I actually kind of like this idea.

NV's this year know what types of bikes they'll be racing against; if a guy chooses to start racing on a 125 or EX, he's accepting the fact that he'll be racing against an SV. And that mere fact doesn't mean it's not fair; a 125 podiumed in LWGP at Round 1!

Lrrs novices are considered ccs ams as far as I've read and have been led to believe Butch... . I'd like to think that just because loudon wants to have a separate class than ccs that they'd at least treat it like a real class and give out trophies just like any other racing class. Like I said before... I personally don't care but it just doesn't make sense. I'd rather do away w/novice myself and get faster chasing someone faster than me anyway, but that's just me.

I agree with BrianC and Oreo. I disagree with smf and bergs and doc.

Novices are real racers. They should get trophies as such in the classes that they podium in. I treasure my novice plaques.

Brian, They did treat it like a "real" class and give trophys before the changes that has at least 3 seperate classes racing against one another for the same 3 trophys.

The seperate class THIS year from what I can see is a DEVELOPMENT class. A chance for people to see if they want to race and not be outclassed by some cherry pickers doing 1:18's in novice (I am making the number up but there were issues like that last year). If it was like it was in years past, a mirror image of EX/AM I could see the argument but it isn't.

Let me ask you a couple questions.

    1. How can you give trophys for a race that has a conglomeration of bikes? Seriously... If it was like it was last year I wouldn't be trying to make this point.

    2. If there was no novice class would we be having this discussion?

    3. Isn't the point of the new novice class to get people out of novice ASAP?

I know why you all feel upset, I would too. It's like not being recognized for the Amatuer class points... It sucks but if the point of the series is to get more people in the "Big Show" why do you want to reward them for staying in the lower ranks? BUMP!

When I started, It was made clear to me by friends, teammates and fellow racers that the Novice class didn't mean shit and I should bump ASAP. Sure the competition was fun and the trophys were cool... Once in Amatuer I was told that the "real racers" were Experts and I should bump ASAP, so I did. That was back when the Novice class was just the same as the others. It isn't now.

Edit: Right now I don't care about the series too much. I care about putting the pieces together to get up there and race. Not parade around with a fancy paint job and a list of "sponsors". I'm kinda annoyed they aren't giving credits out, yes. Because I should have a balance from podiums in October. Trophies are silly, IMO. (but I live in a tiny ass house and wouldn't have a place to let them collect dust anyways). Credits: make it just a little easier for me to come back. Me me me. I'm the princess.

    Re: Trophies!

Haha this thread is funny... Doc you're taking the view that was originally expressed by the series officials, that basically no trophies is a motivator to bump... I just don't think that makes sense and just because some dude wanted to be in novice getting trophies we all shouldn't have to be punished. I'm a get deep on yo asses now... Let's say a novice winner has his racing career cut short by a bad accident on the track or even worse he dies. Wouldn't it be nice for him, his wife or his family to have at least some artifact that represented what he got hurt or died for? I mean, at the moment if one of us(novice) were to die doing what he loved, we would have nothing to show for it whatsoever. Maybe that is a bit much, but whatever. It's not going to hurt to have some memorabilia left over for after we are done racing to look at and say... I remember when.... .
