just wait until you change your oil (if you do it yourself)

    Remove fairing...check
    Remove oil drain...check
Remove oil filter...che..wait, what? How do I get this thing out of here?

Oh it does come out but forget about not getting oil all over the header pipes and dripping down onto the ground/floor.
I spent some time bending up a piece of aluminum flashing to catch the oil from the filter as you spin it off, it worked perfect for that part. The fact that you have to almost dump the filter upside down to remove it from it's location is where it gets messy. Next time I'm going to try and dump it upside down over the flashing to see if that helps, but it's still going to be messy.

First oil change is done, oil+filter at 372 miles and about an hours worth of time used Now it's time to twist the throttle some

can you wrap aluminum foil around the pipes so the oil flows around the foil and not the pipes?

I have to do it on my CBR, or else my bike stinks to high heaven for 100 miles after an oil change.

you could always pop the metal filter casing with a screw driver and use the hole to drain the filter before taking it off.

Yeah Mark.... I dove into it tonight. Aside from the drain bolt needing damn near a breaker bar to get loose.... I still haven't gotten the filter off.

Yep, I used an auto-punch and metal funnel on my old cbr, tossed the funnel between the header pipes then popped a few holes in the filter (don't forget as many on top as on the bottom) with the auto punch, give it 5-10 minutes to drip out, problem solved.
