    Re: BMC Replacement air filter

Yes. We used them all the time when I worked at the shop. We have tried K&N a few times and they did not fit correctly. The BMC slid in perfectly. I believe this happened on an 07 R6 and a couple R1's. So yes, it was a positive experience.

    Kenn

I run BMC race filters in my bike and could feel an improvement immediately over the stock ones. Good quality stuff

    Re: BMC Replacement air filter

Thanks guys! I'm scheduled for DynoTune mapping on the Gladius and PCv this Friday. I should probably wait for the air filter to be in place before getting mapped right? If I don't, and get mapped with the stock filter I would probably have to get remapped with the BMC in place. Will it make a noticeable difference for street application... Crap! Wished I'd seen the BMC a couple of weeks ago.

Yea I would wait to get it tuned until you have the filters.

If you order it tonight it should be here by next Thursday I would think though

Wish I could get an aftermarket filter for my bike... but after doing a ton of research (after buying an expensive DNA filter direct from Greece that I will need to sell) found out that my bike loses a crapload of hp if I run anything but stock, more air=more turbulence=less hp in 1st gen carbed R6's

    Re: BMC Replacement air filter

I've been running one for a few years. When I first put it in my butt dyno said there was a 1hp gain. I believe you can use the K&N cleaning/oiling kit on them.

BMC makes street and race version elements.
You really need to dynotune with the filter in.
Especially with the race element BMC.

    Re: BMC Replacement air filter

IF you are borderline too lean then more air means lossed power

You should be finished with mods then get a map

I am sticking with stock paper myself

Even with the carbs being jetted? if so, good to know that more air doesn't always mean more horse

aftermarket filters don't always give more airflow. a K&N for a CBR929 will restrict flow compared to the stock filter and you'll lose power that way.

ya i have heard that about the k&n filters for motorcycles, i have one in my truck and increases my milage by about .5 to 1 mpg which is huge, may not sound like much but thats 25 more miles to a tank which is actually pretty big when your usually getting about 14.5 to 15 and now im getting 16 pretty consistently

sometimes the benefit isnt always with the HP. I personally like the convenience of cleaning and reusing my filter

Yes Corey.... especially with the carbs being jetted. Messing with the airflow on my particular bike is a huge no-no. More air creates turbulence, which is less usable air flow. I was shocked. I even called Ivan's (where I ordered my jet kit from) and they emphatically reiterated to me, not to put in an aftermarket air filter, that I would mess up the performance, and basically regret it for the rest of my life That is just my bike, lots of other bikes gain in hp and performance with aftermarket higher flow type filters. Just not mine. Its worth researching specific applications for sure.

Only the race bike gets a race filter, otherwise it's generally a waste of money on the street.

hmm good to know, must have something to do with the way your bike takes in the air or something to do with the ram air or something

It's all in the airbox design and how the engine intake pulse works with or against the atomization of the A/F mixture.
