I disagree. O-rings slow you down. But since I've only got a 650, I can tell you with confidence I use an EK MVXZ 520. It is a quality chain for reasonable money.

    Re: Chain

Actually, dyno time shows o-ring chains, while measurably heavier have less friction losses than non o-ring putting more power to the ground.

I don't give a rats ass about the 1/4 horsepower I'm gaining/losing with an o-ring. Just want something solid that will work well.

    Re: Chain

Spend more than $12 on a 520 'blah'-ring of some type chain. Clean it with WD40 frequently, lube it if you desire, watch the slack and replace when it starts needing frequent adjustments.

    Re: Chain

So when you replace the chain, do you put the chain adjusters all the way to the front, or is it good to leave a little space for adjustment? (Not sure why you'd have to adjust forward)

    Re: Chain

DID 520 ERV3 chain. That's all you ever get. It comes with a rivet master link.

    Don't clean it with WD40....ever.

Use kerosene or a chain cleaning product.

Install the chain around the middle of the adjustment blocks, so you can go up/down sprockets for different gearing at different tracks.

I got this advice from a guy who is damn fast on his SV at LRRS. I think he changed his number this year. If it holds up to the way he pushes it then it should be more than enough for me.

    Re: Chain

For the record, when I suggest cleaning the chain with WD40, I don't mean taking the chain off and soaking it over night. A rag loaded with a little WD40 used to wipe down the chain should be plenty and won't harm the o-rings at all. For anything more serious I have a steam cleaner that works right on the bike.

If anybody should need a rivet master link for DID ERV3 in a 520 size for FREE, I have 3 extra. Alas, I have no DID ERV3 chain, because she is 'spensive!

    Hi,

I wouldn't mind having a spare just in case. I'll be at the classic or however you'd like me to get it.

I use a D.I.D 520ERV3 on my RSV1000R. If it can hold up to the torque that that bike can out out, it's MORE than enough for a 600cc I4.
