Heh with just 5800 miles, it should sound like that right?
I'm guessing wiped out lower end bearings. Thoughts?

Cam chain tensioner?

Sounds normal, but I'm used to listening to my Aprilia which is much more noisy than your bike...of course I'm told mine is normal as well

Yikes.
I'd open the valve cover and see if your cams are alright. If there is still good tension on the cam chain, then put it into a boat, row boat into the ocean, light fire to boat. It means your bottom end is toast and there isn't much usable on that motor anymore. If it's just in the head, an Ebay head should get you up and running provided the pistons aren't munched.
If it was an 01-03, I'd of picked up the rolling chassis off of you for spares. Maybe add 4 years to it?

I'm wondering if I should pull the cam chain tensioner from the good motor and put it in this one and see if anything changes.
I've dealt with cam chain tensioners on older I4s before and it doesn't sound like that.

Dump the oil and look for metal?
Jeff
That is waaay beyond a cam chain tensioner problem, definitely down @ least 1 cylinder. You sure that's thing is not steam powered?
Yeah, don't waste your time pulling parts from the good engine to install on the broken one as the problem is much deeper than a CCT. Sounds to me like at least one of the main bearings was starved of oil.
Cylinder 2's exhaust was luke warm at best while the other 3 were untouchable and it is smoking quite a bit. It's only skin, it grows back. I'd say the motor is not even worth doing a comp test or anything else for diagnosis.
I'll start pulling it tonight or tomorrow night.
Are you sure it's not wunna them MotoGP 2 stroke 500's??
