    Help! 09 Zx6r

Ok well I just started getting my bike ready for the track this weekend.

I am putting track plastics on, engine covers, oil coolant & coolant change.

I'm half-way through and now my bike wont run. It will start and run for 2 seconds then dies and iI get an FI light. went back over my work cant figure what io F**ked up for the life of me. I did the oil change and am trying to run it to finish the coolant change. Also attempted to swap the stator cover but stripped one of the bolts holding the stator on so i just put it back on.

    Any Ideas??

went as far a plugging my entire front cowl back in but still nothing.

BTW 09 ZX-6r 11,000 miles pretty much stock till now

FI light is coming on because the ECU knows the engine isn't running. Don't sweat that one.

The engine covers aren't the issue and neither is the oil or coolant.

Do you know if the tip over sensor is located in that front fairing section? If it is and the fairing isn't correctly oriented, that would likely be your issue. I would consider mock-mounting the fairing and proceed from there.

Double check any an all connectors for everything you unplugged. I know Kawasaki likes to use multiple plugs of the same kind but for different components and it can be a guessing game as to which one goes where.

Ya i was getting tired and frustrated so i just set the tools down and left before i broke something lol

random but i did take the radiator of to change coolant, maybe something around there lol

It does kinda sound like the tip sensor tho since it starts and runs fine even time i fire it up but i have to turn th key off and on to get it again

    Re: Help! 09 Zx6r

I am not familiar with the particulars regarding this model but do you know if either the oil or cooling systems have to sense pressurization? As in, it won't run unless everything is capped. There are machines out there that need everything closed up in order to run.

Temp sensor is plugged in and the plug isn't being jumped by anything?

    Fuel pump is priming?

Perhaps try clicking the gearbox into a gear and then back to neutral. Thinking that the shift drum is contacting the safety switch but the bike thinks the kickstand is down? It's a long shot, I know.

EDIT: I'm signing off and going home. I wish you luck.

    Re: Help! 09 Zx6r

I'd doubt ToS if the bike runs. A ToS fault will prevent bike from starting (or any other safety switch like clutch or kickstand, for that matter).

You said you did engine covers. Could there possibly be a problem w/ the stator since it is bolted up to the inside of the LH cover (question for others, not necessarily Danz). Because stator only outputs AC to R/R, I'd kind of doubt it would kill the bike once bike is running. But maybe someone can chime in.

Danz - Will it always start up and then just die after 2 sec? Or did it just do that once now nothing?

I am not sure if you did an exhaust flapper mod ( common with the CBRs). In any event, as far as the CBR is concerned if you remove the exhaust flapper servo the engine light goes on. The work around for this if you so desire to do the exhaust flapper mod (in the CBR at least) is to remove the flapper cable and leave the servo on.

On another note, I believe a read somewhere that the new ZX6R has an ignition chip on the key. Perhaps, you unplugged the battery and triggered the ignition programming to reset. However, I think you did say that the fuel injection light went on, so that might not be it.

Go to the Kawasaki website and post your inquiry there.

On another note, when are you leaving for the BOMO event this weekend? Any chance you have room in your trailer for another bike?

Are you asking Dan Z? We're taking my truck/trailer up. Don't think we could fit a 3rd bike on. If we did it would be very tight and we would lose room for gear...PM me and him I guess.

Well, at least it was the tip over sensor and not some other crazy thing. Glad you got it sorted.

    Re: Help! 09 Zx6r

    Dan,
I'm way late on this thread, but since we have/had the same bike, I'm hoping you can help.

I'm mounting race bodywork on my bike, and I'm having trouble clearing the rear tray that the tip over sensor mounts to. This is the piece that I mean: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KAWASAKI-ZX6...-/251096393607

Did you remove this when mounting your bodywork? If so, wear do you mount the ToS on the bike? If not, did you have to remove material from the tail? I'm using HotBodies bodywork, if it makes any difference.

    Thanks,
    Jon
