I installed a new set of Galfer pads and a new set of EBC Contour rotors on Annalisa's CBR today.
Installation was fairly simple. It was my first brake change and pretty was fairly uneventful, although it took a couple hours, since I wanted to do things right.
However, after everything was together, it seems like the pads drag on the rotors. The calipers are OEM and have never been rebuilt. They're 13 years old.
I'm not sure if the pad springs are the original springs or not. I cleaned everything while it was apart. I did not disassemble the calipers or pistons though.
The springs are pushed apart by the pad pins pressing down on them and looked to be operating normally.
Is this normal behavior?
Pads always drag on the rotors.....always.
Chuck, for future reference, that is a 20 minute job.
Pop pins, pop spring, pop old pads out
Put in new pads, replace spring, replace pins, done.

Pad drag is normal...you should be able to hear them on the rotor but it should still spin freely.
It probably will take me 20 minutes next time, but I also changed rotors, another 15-20 minutes for experienced people. I also scored the rear rotor with scotchbrite to remove the previous pads' glaze.
I do things slow to do them right the first time. I had to reference the servie manual. Next time, I won't need to do that.
Thanks for the offer to help.It doesn't spin as freely as the front wheel of my SV does. Of course, the pads on the SV are in need to replacement. My next project.
Did the same thing myself. New rotors and padsand everything cleaned and working properly. When I put the bike up on a fork stand I can spin the front wheel but hear the pads dragging. Took the bike out for a quick check on 93 and the pads are starting to wear in and there is less drag and noise now. Great time for me to see your post though as I was wondering about that too. Pop the reservoir caps of your masters and make sure you're not overfull now.

Check the brake fluid level and now is a good time replace it and bleed it. My pads always rub a tad, as long as the rotors don't get hot after a five mile run on the highway. You are good to go.
