    Re: The Great R6 (re)Build

Friday night I went and picked up all the stuff I had painted. It all came out AWESOME... the match to the OEM metallic black color is excellent.

Here is everything... full set of race plastics, oem mid fairings, airbox cover, intake covers, and fender. The race plastics have number plates with silver pinstriping around them. I got only one number plate on the front because I thought that looked a lot nicer.

    Race plastics:

Since the race plastics are black I trimmed the black border off the red/white replica stripes that will be going on there. They're so large I expect to have some difficulty getting them on anyways, so I figured I might as well cut that part off. I'm going to install them next Saturday when I'm prepping the bike for the track. That will give the paint another week to cure.

I also had the dent in the old tank pulled out and primered. I'll paint this at some point and throw another set of sliders on it to have as a backup.

I also have another fuel pump so I don't have to switch it over. I'll get a keyless gas cap for it probably as well. Anyone know one besides vortex? I've seen those vaporlock and cause a bike to shut off mid-race...

My spare set of wheels showed up, just as described, just a bit dirty:

Since the super glaze on the workbench was drying, I took some cleaner to them and they came out great. Just a couple tire-change marks, otherwise they're minty fresh:

I installed all the street parts... she looks fucking awesome! Chances are, I'm going to ride with this stuff for the rest of the season, and then pull it all and sell it. The R6 will become track only and I'll start racing in the spring.

Notice the mid fairings (long skinny ones), airbox cover and intake covers are all painted now, instead of grey bare plastic:

Then I took her down the street to put the tires up to street pressures, stopped for a quick photo. She's basically done:

what else do you need to do to get it "race ready"? Aside from safety wiring?

For the gas cap, I have the PP tuning cap:

    PP Tuning Gas Cap

The quick release race one is what I have- you can check it out on Thursday if you want.

I just bought some race plastics too, but they're not as pretty as yours .

Bike looks awesome, amazing job putting it back together .

I'm waiting a week to let the paint cure buddy... getting those large stripes on there is going to be a pretty tricky job to do it right.

As far as I know the extra prep for racing versus track days is safety wiring, approved coolant, numbers, lap transponder... and a more in-depth inspection to pass tech.

Racers you can chime in if I forgot something...

And yeah I want to check out that gas cap on thursday

    Re: The Great R6 (re)Build

This weekend in preparation for goign up to the track it was finally time to mount up the race plastics for the first time after the paint... stripped off all the street stuff, mounted them up, and WOW am I happy with how they look. Robbie Nigl of Peach Pit, from Canterbury, NH did the paint. Anyone who wants their track plastics done... he's your man.

Then I applied the Valencia stripe decals... took me about 3 hours doing it very carefully. Soapy water, squeegee out the bubbles, a little heat, more squeegee, trimming the odd shapes of the fairings with an exacto knife... very OCD process, which is probably which I was able to get them to go on so nicely

    Here she is... DONE.

After that, I went up to watch the races on sunday and had track days monday and tuesday. I felt like I had a couple of 'off' days, but hopefully I'll still be able to get a hold of some decent track photos with the new paint.

Bike = complete for now. Well, except for the red numbers that I'm planning to throw on there this winter...

Nice dude. You'll be there in september right? I didn't make the progress I had hoped these past two TDs but maybe I'll be able to run with ya a little bit in september.

And seriously if you want to do some decals I'll help you out... it's not too bad just time-consuming.

I have two spots reserved for sept. Im not sure if Ill be there. There are a few things that might mess it up a bit but then again Ive been thinking about just selling them off. Right now the plan is to do Penguin the end of August and then race that weekend. Depending on what the surgeon says Im hoping I can race the end of sept and then possibly make tonys.

Youll be able to run with me Im sure. We did get a few more hp out of the bike after Rob got it on the dyno and mapped it. I just hope the module works right this time. Last time out we just ran a base map.

A few stripes would be nice but Id need your OCD to get it done.

I gotcha. Well I hope to see you up there, we can take some laps.

I didn't really pick up any peak HP over the dynojet map but the torque curve was smoothed out a LOT and the a/f ratio leaned out quite a bit since those downloadable maps are way rich.

Lemme know when you wanna do some stripes/decals... give me a beer and a burger and I'll help ya out
