    Rough idle/studdering

I just got home from a ride and i would like some advice on this. My 750 since i bought it has always idled rough, by rough i mean it pulses and i dont know if this is normal or not i have tried to adjust it up or down and it still pulses. The other thing is it has a small studder under 4k if i blip the throttle quick and it will keep doing it over and over. If i hold the throttle at like 3k it will still pulse up and down some and wont run smoothe. If i hold it around 8k it is steady. I was told by someone that because i have the pipe which is more or less straight the EFI doesnt have enough back pressure to work properly he said it can be fixed by getting it adjusted. Any input would be great! Im new the this EFI stuff all the dirtbikes i have owned have been carb!

    Re: Rough idle/studdering

in a nutshell, any time you change any part of the induction or exhaust, you need to change for fuel delivery to compensate. luckily on EFI equipped engines, its much easier than that trail and error with new jets.

in your case, the stutter (the way you describe it) sounds like an issue of a dirty injector combined with a general fuel metering problem. or possibly that combined with a throttle body imbalance..

1st thing i would do is get a good quality fuel injector cleaner and run a tank or two of properly proportioned fuel/cleaner mix.

I will give that a shot. I have run some seafoam through it already but only for a tank when i first got it. I was just reading some other topics about the throttle bodies needing to be sync'd, so you are probably right on that, i was only aware of doing that on carbs i didnt think the EFI needed that.

    Re: Rough idle/studdering

throttle body balancing is really only about adjusting the throttle plates to be perfectly in sync, regardless of fuel delivery mechanism.

also, if the bike could be due for a valve clearance check, you want ot do that before a TB sync, since adjusting your valve clearances will change vacuum signal, etc.

and if you've never changed or inspected the spark plugs, they are certainly worth a look

I just put a new set of plugs in it 100 or so miles ago. It might been the clearance check though now that you mention it. The previous owner bought it new and it has 6225mi on it now and im not sure if it has had one yet. When i start it cold in the morning before i take it out there is a ticking noise for a while until it gets to temp or the oil circulates.

6200 miles is well early for a valve service, so scratch that off the list

    Re: Rough idle/studdering

Suzuki recommends that the valve clearance is checked at 15,000 miles. And they are never out...

The ticking you hear on cold-start is because the oil has not reached all of the parts of the engine yet. Plus, Suzuki valve trains are noisy by nature. If a Suzuki stops ticking, then you worry. lol

    Re: Rough idle/studdering

Oh ok that makes me feel better! My buddys 07 gsxr 600 is noisy too but i thought i would make sure. I know the mileage is low for the year and i shouldnt be worried but it did sit for two years or so without being ridden and i am pretty picky with engines being a heavy equipment mechanic myself....

    Re: Rough idle/studdering

The GSXR's have a secondary set of throttle plates, that are operated by the computer. They are located above of the throttle controlled set of plates. The idea is to smooth out the power delivery, they work well. In 2000 they secondary set was connected to a motor via cables. Suzuki did away with the cables in 2001 because they would frey and then the secondary set of throttle plates would get hung up.

I had the cables go bad on my '00 750, and it was doing the same thing your bike is now. I don't know if you can just look at the cables, or if the computer runs them through a cycle when you first turn the key on, but it's worth a look.

    Re: Rough idle/studdering

What year is your GSX-R? Some of the 07's had a recall for the ICV - it's likely a mapping issue (I still get some kick back on my 07 with the new pipe on it) but I did have some studdering before they replaced the ICV under the recall. Have your dealer check for any recall status on yours

They were tan and they looked good. I replaced them because it was running on 3 cylinders (or at least it was sounding like it) i replaced the plugs and it was all set!
